Georgia: Most Important Right-to-Carry Reform Bill in Over 20 Years Needs Your Help!
Friday, March 21, 2008
House Bill 89, critical Right-to-Carry Reform legislation, is being held up by the Georgia State Senate! Back in January the Georgia House passed HB 89 by an overwhelming vote of 111 to 58. THE SENATE IS STILL REFUSING TO CONCUR! It is crucial that HB 89 be brought up for a FINAL floor vote.
HB 89 would strengthen Georgias current laws by:
* Allowing licensed carry permit holders to possess a firearm in any private motor vehicle while on any publicly accessible parking lot; * Prohibiting gun dealer entrapment schemes, such as those orchestrated by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg; * Allowing concealed carry permit holders to carry in State Parks, recreational areas, wildlife management areas, and on public transportation; * Creating a reduced time limit for various stages of the concealed carry license application process; and * Allowing concealed carry permit holders to carry in restaurants.
These are just a few of the positive reforms HB 89 will make to Georgias firearm laws.
Please call your State Senator, as well as State Senators Joseph Carter and Ronnie Chance, members of the Senate Conference Committee, today and urge them to bring HB 89 up for a final floor vote. Senators Carter and Chance can be reached by phone at (404) 651-7738. To find your Senator and their contact information, please click here.
Please also call Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle at (404) 656-5030 or via email at casey.cagle@ltgov.ga.gov and Senate Majority Leader Tommie Williams at (404) 656-0089 or via email at tommie@tommiewilliams.com and urge them to request HB 89 come up for a final floor vote.
Remind your State Senator, Senators Carter and Chance, Lieutenant Governor Cagle, and Senate Majority Leader Williams that legislation reinforcing the Second Amendment, like HB 89 as passed by the House, is exactly what law-abiding gun-owners and sportsmen want and need in Georgia.
Dont forget to spread the word to your family, friends, and fellow gun owners to call their State Senator today and request that HB 89 come up for a final floor vo
bump to the top for support.
Florida did it - now it’s “more guns, less crime”.
Illinois needs big help, especially Chicago. Daley wants all guns confiscated.
I think his reasoning is to keep the guns out of the hands of blacks so they cannot defend themselves against the chicago police brutality. As seen on TV news.
Bumper
We have plenty of Democrat pols like him in Atlanta. If they had their way nobody in GA but the cops would have a gun, and with incidents happening like the recent one in which metro Atlanta cops shot down a totally innocent 92 year old woman in her own home and then lied through their teeth about how it happened, that's not a pleasant thought
Bump for writing Senate critters.
I think it would be a good idea for States to partially subsidize gun and ammunition purchases and commercial gun training classes for needy carriers.
Guns and gun training classes can be very pricey, especially for people with an acute need to carry, such as abused women with restraining orders against ex-husbands and boyfriends. Often they need a gun “yesterday”, but have never even handled one. For them, even one day’s training and practice could mean the difference between life and death, and the very next day.
While it would be best if there was a private fund set up for such people, in most places if there is such a fund, it is not well known. But there are few better things a State could spend its money on then helping its citizens to defend themselves against violent or murderous attackers.
IMO every young person should be taught the basics of gun safety and handling in public and private schools. That would drastically reduce the number of accidental shooting tragedies as well as showing the students that guns can be dangerous if mishandled or used for the wrong purposes, but are valuable tools when used properly and legally. All they get now from government schools and the media is anti-gun propaganda telling them that guns are intrinsically evil instruments of death and should be outlawed.
Even if you don't have a carry permit the bill would still expand your right to carry a loaded gun in your vehicle with less risk of being hassled by a cop if you're stopped for a traffic violation. Right now you can only legally carry it in a glove box or another type of closed container.
