Living with staggering violence in South L.A.
Los Angeles Times ^ | 3/28/08 | Scott Gold

The sun splashed onto the roof of a church, filling the faces of two golden statues of angels who opened their arms to the sky. It was the first light of the morning, which made everything look pretty, even the hardened heart of South Los Angeles.

Don't be fooled, said 50-year-old Darrell Pruitt, waving a crooked cautionary finger. He walked down Central Avenue, carrying a dripping cup of coffee back to his one-room apartment, as he does each morning before work.

The first few paragraphs of this article tell me almost nothing about violent crime in south L.A. I’m growing more disgusted with this “set the mood first” style of journalism.

I think the solution is probably coddling more illegal aliens.

Due to the internet, newspapers can no longer be the first supplier of hard data, so they will try to be the most elegant supplier instead.

OK, Blame it on the rich. Who’se fault is this? Why don’t the people stand up, turn the cretins in, and clean up their community?
Oh, I remember, Hillary/Barack will fix it all! They promised!

That’s absurd.

The solution is clearly more entitlement programs that search for the root causes.

“”I don’t ask questions,” she said. “I don’t call the police.” No one does, she explained, not so much because the police are feared but because you will become a target yourself if you are known to have ratted out a criminal”

Open border advocates tell us the Hispanic community (aliens) don’t call the police about crime because of the immigration status...nonsense....this is why they don’t call....they’ll be a target if they do.

I heard yesterday that LA is going to ‘fire proof’ their parks......build up walls around them (instead of the border where the wall belongs!) to keep the driveby gangbangers from shooting the innocent bystanders.

LOCK them up and throw away the key and send the illegal ones home!

Like many gangs, MS-13 was named after “La Mara”, a street in El Salvador and “13th Street” in Los Angeles.

South Central has been a haven for illegals, drugs and crime and gangs for decades.
Who cares as long as they stay in that hellhole and continue killing each other.

I wonder why I live alone here
I wonder why we spend these nights together
Is this the room I'll live my life forever
I wonder why in LA
To live and die in LA
I wonder why we waste our lives here
When we could run away to paradise
But I am held in some invisible vice
And I can't get away
To live and die in LA. -Wang Chung

I've been to L.A but only a fool would ever drive to or set foot in South Central. Its far too dangerous.

I don't think it takes much prescience to see that these gunfire proof parks will end up as walled forts that the gangs will take over with guards at every entrance and they will rule with absolute authority.

If they do, the cretins or the cretins' friends take it out on them. They have no way to defend themselves. Why? Rich no-guns-for-the-plebes types. So it actually is the rich (anti gun nuts) who are responsible.

Why not let law abiding citizens carry guns?

Why not make membership or associating with gangs a felony? Make it a crime to just be a member...

I know, I know. We already have the Second Amendment and RICO, but this is looney La-La-Land we’re talking about.

One of these days God’s gonna have his 10.0 retribution on LA.......

Obviously you've not heard of the Don't Snitch" ethic that pervades America's inner cities.

Recall something long ago along the lines of: "If full-scale nuclear war broke out, some journalist would start off the headline story with '80-year-old widow Katherine Jones was walking her off-white pomeranian like she has every morning for the last fifteen years...'."

These people need to enter The Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest.
