In a state that has seen its share of electoral problems this decade, Florida’s senior Sen. Bill Nelson made a rare appearance before the state Senate Thursday to unveil sweeping federal election reform legislation that would eliminate the Electoral College. As the state now wrestles with the national Democratic Party to find a solution to seat its 210 delegates at this year’s presidential nominating convention, Nelson noted that “the solution is very elusive,” but that, “If nothing else, this election has provided further evidence that our system is broken.” The Democratic senator, who sued the Democratic National Committee and Chairman Howard Dean last year for stripping Florida of all its delegates, in his reform bill proposes eliminating the Electoral College and giving American citizens direct election of their presidents by popular vote.

From Article V of the US Constitution; 2/3 of both houses of Congress required to propose a Constitutional ammendment; it then requires ratification by 3/4 of the state legislatures.

WHY do the state laws need to dictate private party primaries.

PARTIES ARE NOT PART OF THE US CONSTITUTION.

Nelson can have the democrat primary system be whatever he can convince deomcrats it should be. Leave the state out of it.

"He was an astronaut so I don’t think its real. He’s a very intelligent socialist who has led a privileged life."

He was not a real astronaut. He was picked to fly a mission because his congressional district took in Cape Canaveral. By sucking up to him by giving him a free ride on the shuttle, it insured NASA of getting their budgets approved by Congress for years to come. I believe Barfin' Jake Garn of Utah had a similar free ride.

Nelson was NOT an Astronaut. He was a Payload Specialist on the Shuttle. PS’s used to get about six weeks’ training for a flight. Saying Nelson is an Astronaut because he rode on the Shuttle is like me saying I’m a flight crew member because I ride on an airliner. Sen. Jake Garn and Saudi Prince Sultan also got freebie rides as PS’s. Some PS’s (scientists, engineers) ran experiments on the Shuttle. The political PS’s like Nelson, Garn, and Sultan basically were told, “Don’t touch anything!”

Nelson is a vain fool. You should have seen the vids of him preening his hair while he was in the White Room (just before you get into the shuttle), using what he thought was a mirror but what was really a camera lens! I worked at KSC when he got his ride.

The Constitution also never stopped McCain/Feingold, which passed and became law in spite of the unconstitutionality of every core issue contained therein. And Bush signed it thinking it would not make it past the Supreme Court?

Now we know the main reason Real Conservatives are fed up with RINOs.
