A 36-year-old man died yesterday afternoon within an hour of being beaten by four youths on a SEPTA platform a short distance from City Hall and the Center City Starbucks store where he worked. The attack happened in view of passersby and a transit policeman who was unable to help.

Don’t be too harsh on the Philly politicians. They have more important things to do like persecute steak shop owners who ask customers to speak English.
“man died yesterday afternoon within an hour of being beaten by four youths”
Clever. Written in such a way as to NOT show the causality. The man died.
Wrong.
He was murdered by vicious criminal murderers who know they will get away with their crime if they just say that he said “n-word”, and they flew into a rage and attacked him.
People on the Philly subway need to make “Bernie Goetz Fan Club” t-shirts.

Here's an interesting thought...read the article before spouting nonsense.

The Philly city council is threatening to pass their own gun laws in violation of state law. The thing that has cracked me up from the beginning was all the high hopes for Nutter; clean and articulate, you know.
This happened with people around, and an officer right there in the station?? Their lust for violence and mayhem was so boundless they didn’t care who saw them.
There was an altercation between the youths and the guy? Gee, I wonder what they said to him. If there were any racial taunts I suppose we’ll never know.
In another article some authority figure said something to the effect that they can’t have officers in every station. Why not? Taxes are sky high, and nanny state government tries to take care of our every need, supposedly. Why not at least use our tax dollars to try protecting us from the scum??
So far I don’t think this story had made any national headlines. Maybe Nancy Grace will talk about it on her show. But I won’t hold my breath.
“When seconds count, the police are only minutes away”
I would opine that the colors and numbers are wrong . For it to get national attention the colors and numbers must be reversed.
That’s spot on... A lot of them are union types or government employees who do not want anything to do liberals. Its just about jobs..
You pose this as a question as if there were any doubt.
I read the article, thank you very much.
There were any number of people on that platform who could have helped but didn’t. Were you around in the Kitty Genovese days? There is nothing new whatsoever about a crowd watching as thugs beat up on one defenseless person.
I remember the Genovese case very well and there were no cops on the scene so what’s your point in suggesting that the Officer in this case chose not to help?
touchy aren’t you ?
I come from a familylof NYPD and don’t feel the need to explain a damned thing.
Have a good day.
Dreadful. RIP.
the officer had to get back across the tracks, when he got there the man was down and the youths had fled, he performed CPR....and was able to identify one of the attackers.....I would say the cop did what he could.
I read that ... but there were OTHER people on the platform ... there should have been one person who’d have made enough noise, thrown something, done anything to break up the mob of thugs attacking the one guy. Thugs like that are nothing but bullies, and they get away with it because evil prevails when good men do nothing. (read that somewhere)
there should have been one person whod have made enough noise”
There was only sheep on the platform.
