Actually in Pennsylvania at least, the state govt gave $40 million to some part of the railroad companies to make all the underpasses deep enough so that they can carry double-stacked containers, which is part of the business that directly competes with trucking.
I think the big trucking companies are expecting something coming down the pike. We got a call from JB Hunt today wanting us to sign on with them. Only problem was—they were $1 less a mile than what we are getting and couldn’t understand why we turned them down.
Don't know where it is all going to end.
I would guess not well.
If memory serves me correctly, it was originally some Christian guy, that came under investigation, and eventually fled the state. It’s probably run by some mid eastern types by now.
You actually waste more fuel cutting off the engine and restarting it later than leaving it idling.
Was my recollection correct? The first name John comes to mind. Can’t recall his last.
Yes, his name is John Kindt.
Hmmm..That might be right. Then again, I might have it confused with some other players. Lots of corruption in the transportation industry.
John Kindt ran Primetime shuttle and it merged with City Shuttle in 1990 (still keeping the Primetime name). John ran the new company based out of Burbank. They had the majority of shuttle service in the San Fernando Valley, and had large inroads down to LAX as well.
Not at all, I am sure there could be different owners now.
What happened was one of the people in the consulting business tried to contract with them, plus a tennis buddy of mine was a driver for them for a while.
Between the driver I knew, his experiences with all the vans breaking down on runs and the papers one of the consultants reviewed, we surmised they were running at that time on bad tires, hardly any brakes and so forth.
Since that seemed to be the case, we did not attempt to work for them since they weren't even keeping up basic maintenance at that time. So how could they pay our bill?
(Again, this is not talking current times) This is talking twenty years ago, as I look at their vans now, they do look to be in pretty good shape.
At the time I did Emery nation wide, some major food transportation companies and some like Bergin Brunswig Corp. I would do things on a national scale.
Oh, I keep in touch and socialize with some of the fleet owners in my state.
It’s not an easy business in any case. :-)
Here how I put it at our sister site last night:
I have tried to educate people about “how you could really shut down the United States” in this manner:
“Suppose you had a magic wand that would make any one group of people disappear, and you waved it over all the Presidents, CEO’s, and CFO’s of all the corporations...
What would happen?
For a while, not much, because any properly organized business can be run, short-term, by the subordinates.
On the other hand, suppose you made all the truck drivers- over the road, short haul, delivery men— vanish?
The country would grind to a halt.”

ooida is not a sham phoney shill group they are the nra of trucking
Imagine, stupid truckers expecting the U.S. govt. to actually work on their behalf.
Maybe stand up to oil producers and oil companies. Fools
unless there is bribes and kickbacks our govt. ain’t going to do a thing for the truckers.
I take it you are not familiar with the EPA's new Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel requirements. Road Diesel no longer is normally made with first cut distillation.

You don't get something for nothing. Adding load to the engine will driving to run a generator adds fuel consumption. Storing that energy in batteries adds to the required energy due to inefficiencies.
There’s a way you can save on gas:
Stay out of urban counties during 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 and like wise in the evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
As long as you guys insist on sitting in stop and go traffic, idling away your diesal, and making those of us in vehicles that can accelerate, maneuver, and brake do the same, my sympathy is somewhat limited.
Oh, ooops, that would mean the big rig drivers actually doing something, instead of not changing anything and just expecting something from the rest us. Never mind.
I'd like to see a million people strike against the income tax and the IRS!!Time to get their attention.
