COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Exotic dancers would have to stay six feet from strip club customers and those businesses would have to close at midnight under a bill being considered by House lawmakers.
Scott Bergthold is a Tennessee-based lawyer who told a House subcommittee on Thursday that late operating hours for strip clubs creates more crime and problems for police.
Bergthold says stripper dances may be protected by courts, but not when they touch customers, which is commonly known as a lap dance.
He says there's no constitutional right to lap dances.
The House Judiciary Committee will next take up the proposal
Politicians are corrupting our country. Let’s ban the politicians.
I agree:
Maybe, maybe not, but there ae many of us in Maine that wish our legislature and adminstation had some idea of decency.
Just another of our precious freedoms they’re depriving us of.....
There was a comedian awhile back who had a line “lap dances are like holding a piece of wax fruit in front of a starving man”
are you saying that you feel that your personal views on decency should be enforced on everyone by law?
I thought this was a free country.
Cry and scream as some might the state has a right to ban this if the people of that state want that standard. I support their right to do this. Don’t know if it is the right fight right now but I see it as the states right.
I don’t think it’s the people’s right to ban anyhting on decency. It’s only your right to outlaw an action if that action interferes with your rights. Period.
Hillsborough County has hired Tennessee attorney Scott Bergthold to make life harder for adult businesses. One of his ideas is for exotic dancers to carry licences. Where these women would carry them leaves much to the imagination.
Bergthold has a long history in the Christian Right. He graduated from Pensacola Christian College in 1994. He received his law degree from the Christian university Regent Law School. At law school, Bergthold became involved with the Pat Robertson-funded American Center for Law and Justice.
Bergthold has ties with the organizations Community Defense Counsel and Victims of Pornography. The site has a poem Amber Smith wrote for those who have been victimized form one too many Ron Jeremy movies.
“He says there’s no constitutional right to lap dances...”
Wrong..Amendment IX The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be considered to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
I think that covers lap dancing....
If prisoners have a Constitutional right to cable TV, I’ve got a right to the lap dancer of my choice. They can pry my dollar bills from my cold, dead hands.
Stupid nanny-state morons wanting to protect the citizens from themselves. Dancing is a form of expression and suppressing free speech in this form is simply about saying you don’t approve of how they choose to live. I hope the courts smack them down bigtime.
And why would they license them? To ensure lap dancers have no cellulite and and minimum breast size?
Tell the gummint to stay out of my lap!
Essentially...yes...just like you are supposing that your personal view of decency is that this activity in the public place for hire is a good thing. Please don't act as if your right to do or receive a lap dance is value neutral. It is not. And if you come into the public square saying that this is acceptable defend it and get others to do the same. After all...its YOUR personal view.
Yes, I for one am so proud they are once again wasting time, money, and energy on stupid crap. This is the same group of idiots that outlawed Cane-toad licking. You would think that SC has a great economy, no crime, etc., ya’ll know- real problems that need attention. Do I need a sarcasm alert here? :0)
Yikes! You just made me lose my appetite!!
