Many Republicansthis writer includedare not happy with the thought of Senator John McCain as their presidential nominee. Many of these same Republicans are not happy with the Republican Partys drift toward big government and away from conservative principles. Instead of capitalizing on their control of both houses of Congress and the White House and ushering in decades of Republican control of the government, the administration has missed opportunity after opportunity to show real leadership and make government our servant rather than our master.
And Senator McCain promises more of the same, with even more of a tilt to the left. Given this, why should conservatives vote for Senator McCain? The conventional answer is that Senator McCain is the lesser of two evils and, as conservatives, we would be better off with him in the White House than either Senator Obama or Senator Clinton. But would we?
While a McCain administration could be expected to propose less liberal legislation and a somewhat less intrusive federal government than either Obama or Clinton, the differences would not be great. If one looks at the net result of legislative and executive initiatives, it could well be the case that more McCain-proposed legislation would be passed than that proposed by a Democratic administration. This would likely be the case if Republicans in the Congress functioned effectively as a loyal opposition and stopped the worst of any socialistic initiatives of the liberal Democrats. Those same Republicans would be reluctant to vote against legislation pushed by their president.

He sure asks me for money every day. I guess "moderates" don't give very well.
From the article:
How could we not support McCain when the result would be the likely election of a much more liberal candidate as president? The benefits of such an outcome could be several. For one, the Republican Party might come to its senses and purge those who brought on such a defeat. The Republican Party might actually become more interested in governing like a party truly interested in limited government and individual freedom rather than perpetuating its power.
Secondly, the country could truly see the Democratic Party and its president for what they are, based not on campaign promises and empty rhetoric but on actual practices and results in office. Such a four year experience could rekindle the fire in those who have been let down by the Republican Party of today and motivate them to take back their party.
And finally, with the country headed for some difficult economic times, it would be an opportunity to let the country see just how effectively the liberal Democrats can govern in trying times. Four years of such a spectacle should energize the conservative core of this country and stimulate interest and participation by those previously uncommitted souls whose interest in politics was erratic at best. Such an experience would be akin to water boarding for many who have forgotten what the left wing of the Democratic Party is really like.
They are too busy reliving the 70’s and experiencing Starbucks.
I think it is time for FR to have a debate about a third party Conservative for POTUS.
Let’s not repeat the stupidity of 2006 (”staying home” thus allowing the dems to take over) by not voting for McCain, regardless of where you think he stands. This year, especially, it’s time for Republicans to vote as such, and in droves. The alternative is too horrible to think about.
Sure, let’s pull 15% of the vote away from McCain and give the Presidency to Obama, or, God forbid, the other one.
Um, I didn’t call for anyone to stay home.
But, I, for one, will do what I can to get McCain to take notice of Conservatives and conservative principles.
It’s too early to “lay down.” I hope McCain wins...but it appears he will be a disaster.
Please read the entire article.
This assertion has been debunked many times. This is not why Democrats did well in the 2006 elections.
Conservatives make up more then 15% of the votes.
McCain is a POS, scumbag, left wing Socialist, no two ways about it.
What we are faced with is Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest.
There is not a 10 cent difference between McCain and Hitlery.
IF you are still needing to ask questions of MCCain then you shouldnt bother to need the answers. He is a liberal hot headed skank that will be all to happy to further sell out conservatives.
You are, essentially, correct. The only thing I would add is that McPain is better on our sacred 2nd Amendment than either of those other two.
WOW, Needs to be reposted IMHO:

You should read post two and the whole article.
And then don’t be stupid.
Are you talking to me?
We’d be better preparing for a revolution as that seems to be the only thing that will reverse the suicidal course of anti-Americanism that has gripped and consumed the Democrat Party and has infected the Republican Party with its terminal disease. Juan McAmnesty is simply a symptom of the degeneratation of this party and the so-called leadership that is leading it over a cliff along with American sovereignty and Constitutional government. At this point, like Dr. Walter Williams, a true black man and a patriot, I refer to myself not as a Republican or even a conservative anymore, but as a radical or rebel since original Constitutionalism, the very ideology that founded this nation, is now considered not only radical and rebellious but “dangerous”. That’s just how damned far we have moved from the Founding Fathers and the individual liberty inspired, God centered, free republic they established. The kind of despicable stupidity that John McCain, his RINO ilk, and Democrats aspire to is diametrically opposed to the form of Constitutional elective representative government that preserves American sovereignty, strength, independence, and freedom; something idiots like McCain and his left-wing buddies utterly devalue and cannot grasp.

WF - don’t hold back tell us what you really think! :-)

Everytime Dems go after the 2nd amendment they lose votes, America gets it.
Well put!
