After barely winning her initial Senate race in 1996 and surviving a serious challenge in 2002, Republican strategists targeted U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu as the most vulnerable Senate Democrat in this falls election.
Unfortunately for Republicans defeating Landrieu will not be an easy task. Just look at what she has done in recent weeks in lining up endorsements from a most unusual group, Northshore Republicans.
While Landrieu is considered a staunch Democrat, her voting record is notably moderate. Several months ago, GOP St. Tammany Parish President Kevin Davis surprised many political observers by endorsing Landrieu. Davis cited his close working relationship with Landrieu after Katrina. Landrieus efforts to assist the recovery after Katrina were also highlighted by a number of other Northshore Republican leaders who endorsed Landrieu last week. Joining Davis in crossing the party aisle were Hammond Mayor Mayson Foster, Covington Mayor Candace Watkins, and St. Tammany Parish Assessor Patricia Schwartz Core.

The Dems will pick up the David Vitter Seat in 2010.
I can’t believe this! But Louisiana is trending red and I really trust that she’ll lose.
She must have promised TONS of money for their PET PROJECTS!
That’s a matter of opinion. He was also a Democrat.
For some reason Harry Lee was able to keep the Jefferson Parish crime rate far below the crime rate in Orleans Parish.
If New Orleans is your benchmark, then Lee looks good. But he was also a yellow-dog democrat with ties to organized crime (Marcello) and firmly entrenched machine politics.
Mussolini made the trains run on time...
Very doubtful. Who are they going to run that will beat him? He has a long time to mend fences and voters have a short memory.
Well if Elliot Spitzer is not fit for office for his visits to a prostitute, I do not think the people will see that David Vitter is fit for office.
Anybody who is in leadership in the GOP and endorses the democrat should be forced to resign, because the whole point of the party is to support the party nominees, not the opposition.
Gee. I didn’t know Aaron “I Lie My Ass Off On National TV” Broussard and John “Edwin Edwards Crony” Alario were Republicans...
Harry Lee got too much credit for that. It doesn’t take much for Jefferson Parish to be far below that of New Orleans. The crime rate actually was going up the past few years in Jefferson Parish. Looting ran rampant in Jefferson Parish right after the hurricane, and Jefferson Parish deputies did nothing. It was only when the National Guard stepped in did it stop. The Westbank of JP had a higher crime rate than the Eastbank, where there there is a higher income base. It wasn’t because of Harry Lee, it was because the demographics are different than N.O.
Huh???? I’m supporting her???
And that will vanish right after the convention.
I knew that.. I was just kidding..
Probably so.
The management of the Northshore is amazing in how not to civil engineer anything. The civil planners in St. Tammany would put red lights on an expressway if we had one. So they need a lot oif cash to overcome their stupidity.
