A 2002 Quinnipiac University poll found that 42 percent of Pennsylvania households have guns, including 54 percent of union households

As resident of the commonwealth of Pa, I'm shocked that gun ownership is this low. My ancedotal evidence indicates that gun ownership is a lot higher per household here than 42%. The NRA regularly holds their annual convention here for a reason. They are due to hold it in Pittsburgh again in 2011.

Philadelphia has experienced an epidemic of gun killings: 331 people were shot to death last year, 321 with handguns.

As Archie Bunker somewhat famously said to Gloria, "Would it make you feel better little girl if they jumped out of buildings?"

Over the holiday, my wife, daughter, grandson and I went into Pittsburgh.

Before we left the car, my grandson said. "You're going to strap it on, aren't you gramps"?

I said, It's like my American Express card, I don't leave home without it".

I would never leave my family unprotected by leaving my gun in the vehicle while we were walking the streets in Pittsburgh.

Didn't need it and hope I never do, but it's not that heavy.

It's probably a variation of the so-called Bradley effect, given that polling predicted Mayor Bradley was supposed to win the Governor's race in CA in the early 1980s. He lost. It was attributed to the polls being given dishonest answers because Bradley was black.

As it happened, IIRC, a handgun ban was on the ballot in CA on that Election Day. The NRA did a retail gun store voter registration effort in the months prior to the vote. They registered 300,000 new voters. Bradley lost by 93,000 votes.

ElkGroveDan wrote the gist of the story to me in a comment after the polls were wrong in NH when Hillary won. I find it somewhat ironic that the VPC verified it!

Not everyone admits everything to a survey.

Every questionaire that I have ever filled out, if it has a question:Do you own a firearm? I ALWAYS answer NO. It is none of their damn business if my wife or I own firearms.
