A Lie Repeated - The Far Left’s Flawed History of Tibet
students for a free tibet ^ | 03-25-08 | Joshua Michael Schrei

As a lifelong activist who has worked on human rights issues around the globe, I hold the view that the best representatives of a culture are its people; that people create their own history, and in the case of the colonized or the oppressed that history is often rewritten by the oppressor. I do not assume that simply because a country is communist or socialist or capitalist that its practices toward its own people or its foreign policies are more or less honorable; beyond all the rhetoric, the reality of a situation can always be measured by the affected people themselves.

The Tibet issue is one that the far left has found to be somewhat of a conundrum, for the simple reason that most other popular human rights struggles can be easily linked to a larger struggle against U.S. or European imperialism. Therefore these struggles - be it in Palestine, or East Timor, or Colombia, fit nicely into the larger - and often rather myopic - worldview of the leftist.

There is no model for a democratic Tibet.

You didn't read the article did you?

I prefer ChiCom "lackey running dogs" popularized under Mao

Bhutan has about 2.4 million people. Tibet has about 2.7 million

LOL by my count that's about 5.1 million people waging their unprovoked Buddist War of Future Oppression against 1 Billion Chinese.

No wonder China is so upset.

You might want to take the advice of the Buddha and look within my friend. It's there you'll find the source of your people's misery.

“So this means a restoration of a free Tibet will almost have to involve the expulsion of the Han Chinese already there.”

The Han Chinese were resettled in Tibet by the ChiCom regime much against the wishes of the Tibetians and, in some cases, the Hans themselves. You ought to be ashamed of using an ethic cleansing argument when it comes to the Han Chinese - who are by far the current experts in all forms of genocide.

Welcome to FR, btw.

Potato, Potahto. You agree that the Han Chinese have to go, yet there is no nice way of getting them to go.

Please note that *I* didn’t call it “ethnic cleansing”, which I might add was an instantly trite expression. But yes, civilians will have to pay the price for the actions of their leaders.

I just do not see any nice way for the Tibetans to get the Han Chinese to leave Tibet, assuming the Chinese military leaves. It would probably be best if it was an orderly withdrawl, but that is seldom the case in the real world.

The same applies to the Uighur region of West China, or as was just a small mention in the news yesterday, the Chinese plainclothesmen leaving Nepal, where they have been sent to fight Tibetans.

In the future, it also seems likely that China and India will get into another brawl. Things happen.

Neither of your linked articles contradicts anything in the article I linked to. It may be unfortunate that ethnic Nepalese are being expelled but they were refugees in Bhutan in the first place not Bhutanese citizens. Your two articles do more to support the article I linked to then contradict it.

I don't know how hippies got into this but you are definitely a moonbat for thinking your links were a rebuttal.
