US To Help Egypt Build Border Fence

Cairo, Egypt - The United States has announced that it is planning to help Egypt build a border fence along the Gaza-Egypt border. Washington transferred $23 million worth of special aid to the North African nation as part of its assistance in locating smuggling tunnels.

Over the past few months, smuggling between Gaza and Egypt has garnered more attention in light of the Israeli economic blockade on the small Mediterranean strip of land. Israel is calling on Egypt to improve its crackdown on Palestinian smuggling, which the Jewish state says allows weapons to enter Gaza that are then used against southern Israel.

The planned fence between Egypt and Gaza will employ technology directed at preventing the fence from being damaged. This is in response to Palestinian militants who blew a hole in the current wall between the two nations that allowed hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to flock into Egypt late January and early February.

The American Army Corps of Engineers plans to send teams to Egypt to help push forward the border fence plans. No timetable has been given yet as to when the wall will be constructed

While building the wall, the Americans also hope to help Egyptian security forces locate and destroy smuggling tunnels into Gaza Israel has welcomed the move, saying that American participation will help end the movement of weapons into Gaza.

George, I had it up to here with your border BS and "comprehensive immigration" crap!

The only way I buy us building fences in Egypt/Palestine is if the Israeli's come over hear and build us one on the US/Mexican border!!

they'd get it done while you and the Congress stand around with your thumbs up your rears.

The irony is rich, but there is more here than that.

Gaza is often referred to as being a big open air prison, the implication being that Israelis are their jailers.

Gaza is historically part of Egypt. Yet it is Egypt that is sealing them off. Where are the Qassam rockets sailing over the fence into Egypt?

“It’ll have to have a pretty deep footer to prevent tunnels.”

I’d prefer a WALL like in “Escape From New York” with tunneling sensors every 100 yards extending a few hundred feet into the earth below and a radar array to detect fly-overs.

The hypocrisy here is huge. Israel, too, needs to protect itself from these same Palestinian Islamoterrorists, so starts to built a fence and gets criticized. The world receives only evil from these Arab Palestinians and their backers. They really need to be shipped to and reabsorbed by their real homelands - Jordan and Egypt.

Irony alert: helping to build border fences around the world, while leaving our own wide open to invasion.

Oh, you’ve GOT to be kidding me — We’re helping EGYPT and we can’t build out OWN fence? 23 MILLION to EGYPT for a Wall?

What about us AMERICANS Mr. President? You do realize that average AMERICAN citizens are being accosted, and yes MURDERED, by some people using smuggling corridors under our OWN border, RIGHT?

Look, I’m all for helping Israel, and I would LOVE for the Palestinians to have more trouble getting arms, but it’s not like Syria, Iran, Lebanon, and all the other conflict-loving Arab nations are going to be stopped from arming their comrades by a wall in Egypt! (And, from the sounds of it, it would seem that arms smuggled IN wasn’t the problem — it was people trying to get AWAY from the terrorists that were fleeing to Egypt).

So ironic, that they can see the problem in Egypt, but here in America? They’re all blind as small hand-wing bats.

With a nation AT WAR and our own borders almost COMPLETELY unprotected I am continually astounded at the wanton negligence for the safety of our own country’s citizens and our nation’s sovereignty displayed by our so-called “Leaders” (on ALL sides).

It's a lot easier. No Environmental impact, no eminent domain, and no lawsuits. That's what happens in countries with limited democracies.

I am a lifetime Republican voter. We get Republican majorities for six years and a two term President and this is what it all amount to.

WTH?!

When you need a border fence go to the USA, the ones who really know how to do it right.

That would be nice. :’) I’d prefer that Egypt did something about smuggling. For that matter, why are heavy armaments just setting around? Clearly the threat to Israel is going to get worse, because either the Egyptian gov’t is behind the smuggling, or is losing control of Egypt itself.

In fairness, the Gaza border with Eqypt is what?

25-30km long? (like 12 american miles)

Compared to: 2,000 miles for the US/Mexico border. That’s bigger than the great wall of China!
