A woman who pled guilty to leaving her two children in a car that ran out of gas on a highway has been turned over to federal immigration authorities.
Deputies arrested Huerta on Dec. 14, 2007, after she left her 5-year-old daughter and 10-month-old son in a vehicle on the southbound side of U.S. 75 north of Telephone Road, Norton said.
Huerta's vehicle ran out of gas and she left the vehicle to get help. Soon after she left, her daughter got out of the vehicle and attempted to cross the street into oncoming traffic, Norton said.

If we don’t enforce the immigration laws, why are we enforcing the child welfare laws? Isn’t that arbitrary and capricious law enforcement? A nation ruled by laws or a nation ruled by despots?
Brain damage, major brain damage
Where’s DAD?
More “anchor” babies?
Bet ya she’s collecting on all kinds of social services at YOUR EXPENSE!
I don’t want to split up familia!
Send em ALL BACK - kiddes, and Mom and if you can find “Dad” or the sperm donor - send him too!
Why bother arresting her? It’s not like we ask her to obey any other laws so why enforce this one?
The only people who are REQUIRED to obey the law are taxpaying citizens, and thats only so we can fund federal authorities to help illegal aliens ignore the law.
Get it?
The Rats love this.
If the kids are born here they are American citizens. You want Americans expelled from their country?
No offense intended, but why did you think it necessary to bring in a third party? The father may be a crumb, but he had nothing to do with this mess. The female didn’t think ahead and it placed her children in jeopardy. She should be the focus here.
Nobody’s suggesting deporting American citizens. If the mom wants to leave the kids with a legal resident friend or relative, that’s fine: but, no way should mom get to stay just because the kids are citizens. If mom CHOOSES to take the kids with her back to Guatemala, then the kids will certainly still be welcomed back here when they turn 18.
I think you are absolutely right. Unfortunately I don't believe we will find out. The issue has been so marginalized it doesn't have to be dealt with.
Oh please. Don't play people for fools. It was made loud and clear when this issue was the big thing, "everybody needs to go back" was the cry. Now that the Pubs are back in the minority and Hispanics are swinging over to the Rats lets not try to rewrite history.
“If the kids are born here they are American citizens. You want Americans expelled from their country?”
YUP!
Other countries have revised their citizenship rules to
STOP being ecmploited by getting pregnant to stay here and piggy back off the kids citizenship.
Yes, this must STOP!
BTW, WHERE IS DAD? The sperm donor?
As I said, send em ALL back - I hate to split up single mom families.
Now you’re just making stuff up. I was around when “this issue was a big thing”, and everyone I heard of understood that you couldn’t deport citizens, minor or no.
“No offense intended, but why did you think it necessary to bring in a third party? The father may be a crumb, but he had nothing to do with this mess. The female didnt think ahead and it placed her children in jeopardy. She should be the focus here.”
Dad is not a “third party”?
Hmmmmm Just a sperm donor who cuts and runs?
I don’t think so. DAD is part of the party.
Since “mom” got into trouble and she is NOT a LEGAL citizen, send em all back - including “dad” if he is ILLEGAL too or if he is LEGAL - make him pay for his babies where “mom” goes when she is deported.
Read post #13.
I appreciate your direct answer. I don't agree, but it makes it easy to discuss.
I am all for building a wall and securing our border, but I am opposed to sending back families with American born children. The children are citizens and most have never been south of the border.
I think a much more workable solution is to fine the parents and give them work permits, as long as there is no history of criminal activity. I would not allow the parents to become citizens, since they broke the law coming here. However, it seems the opportunity for a workable compromise with the Rats is over.
I’m going to have to side with NMH on that issue. Once you allow children to be ankor children, you forfeit any reasoned claim that any of them should return home. All it takes is one pregnancy and a plopped out child on U.S. soil and instant legal status. Not no, but hell no. I would go even farther. When those U.S. Citizen children want to return to the U.S., they can reimburse the U.S. for the cost of their medical care and education that can be documented BEFORE entering.
And that hard position costs support. The end result being at best we might get some of a fence built. None of the candidates support hard enforcement and the lack of flexibility drove away what support there was.
