Fears of Muslim Violence Inactivates Web Site

(IsraelNN.com) The world's largest website name registrar, Network Solutions, is blocking web surfers from accessing an anti-Islam site - prompting concerns that fear of Islamic violence has become so powerful that it even controls WWW content.

Network Solutions developed the domain name registration system in 1993 and was the world's only domain name provider until 1999, when the domain name industry opened up to competition. Today, the company hosts seven million domain names. The Washington Post reports that Network Solutions is now, for the first time, blocking access to a site that has not yet put up any substantial content.

The inaccessible site contained, before it was shut down, only a picture of a gilded Koran along with the text "Allahu Akhbar" (Allah is Great), and the words "Geert Wilders presents Fitna - Coming Soon." ...

I haven't looked since 2000, myself. I have never hated a commercial institution so much in my life. Ask any webmasters who remember them. Most have worked years to forget them.

The most despicable, hateful, arrogant outfit to deal with that has even been- They make the Registry of Motor Vehicle and the IRS look like a love-in.

Remember, just dialing the number and hanging up will create a cost to them on an 800 number. Anyone have a demon-dialer laying around? /h

Network Solutions just opened itself up for an ocean of lawsuits. By its own admission, it is now responsible for all the content in the web. Lawyers are now rubbing their hands in glee. The days of the uncensored internet are coming to an end. We can thank Islam for it.

You were way, way too kind here. I dealt with these assholes back in the day, hateful, despicable and arrogant I could deal with. Combined with incompetence, ignorance, willful ignorance, outright reluctance and utter disdain can only begin to describe the loathsome sub-humans that make up that company.

If it's paid for then the company has to refund the money or allow access. If I was Wilders I would hire a new web-hosting company and force Network Solutions to offer a reroute or link to the new company.

Disguise it as a porn site. Then let people distribute it virally.

Hahaha, well within the limits of the English Language and the limitations of a family friendly forum, it was all I could do.

If a big meteor took out Herdon VA it would be a beautiful thing. A big bonus would be AOL going along with it to Hell, all arriving at once. (Warm feelings all around.)

Pointing out the glaringly obvious, but if even US ISPs have cold feet about hosting this video, you would think there would at least be one in Israel willing to host it.

"Ask any webmasters who remember them."

~~~~~~~
Remember them? NS is still as bad as (or worse than) ever! (Just try transferring a domain away from NS...
I just went through three days of grief from NS!
I registered my personal domain with them (only game in town) in 1996. It was due to expire at NS next month -- and they have been badgering me with "Renew with NS" spam.
So, I elected to move my domain to a more user-friendly registrar. The problem was that NS makes it so difficult to update domreg records, that my domain's ADMIN CONTACT e-mail was still listed with an ISP that ceased to exist ca 1998. So, I updated my ADMIN CONTACT record to reflect my current e-mail address.
"Catch-22!!!"
NS then informed me that they had placed a "60-day transfer hold" on my domain because I had changed my ADMIN CONTACT record in order to move my domain! (Do the math -- that is 30 days past expiration -- they thought they could force me to renew with NS,)
"ADMIN CONTACT record was changed" is not one of the nine valid reasons for transfer hold -- per ICANN regulations. So I filed a grievance against NS with ICANN.
Finally, NS required a faxed letter on my company letterhead -- with photo ID. So I sent a "rip 'em a new one" letter -- using a scan of a (suitably redacted) CCW license for ID.
~~~~~~~~~~

The "quality representative" at NS instantly released my domain!!! '-) LOL!!!

They love FAX harassment. FAXes are 1980's which suits them.

My current registrar, with who I of course have no problems, wanted a faxed document.

I _lost it_, total DEFCON1. (98 deciBels)

FAX??????

DID YOU SAY "FAX"????

DO YOU KNOW WHO USED TO DEMANDS FAXES FOR EVERY TRIVIAL TRANSACTION?????

I'LL TELL YOU: IT WAS THAT FILTH AT NETWORK SOLUTIONS!!!!!!! IF YOU WANT TO DO ANYTHING THAT REMINDS ME OF THEM YOU CAN TAKE THE DOMAIN NAMES AND----Really long rant, ending with "I bet you have heard this before, too!-----etc."

done it, In doubt I will receive a reply but at least they had another mail to them pointing out how they are on their knees to muslims and how free speech does not seem to exist in their view unless it goes with the islam view

I still do have to deal with them. Clients come in and they already registered their name for a whopping 37.00. I despise this outfit and I have had more run-ins with them than I can count. I inherited a bunch of hosting accounts from a company that went out of business and that was their registrar or choice. Idiots.

I still can't figure out how they charge what they do when you can buy a domain name all day long for $10 and under and from reputable registrars too.

I understand there are people who will pay good money for people to whip them and give them enemas, so there is no limit to the depths of a masochist's depravity.

I rate doing business with NS as being somewhat sicker than the above. The Marquie De Sade would flee the place in tears.

I really hate them.
