BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - After a failed run for president, Fred Thompson is getting back to pretending to be commander in chief.
Hollywood's high-powered William Morris Agency announced this week that it has signed the actor/politician, signaling a return to the screen for the former senator from Tennessee.
Thompson most recently appeared as grizzled district attorney Arthur Branch on "Law & Order" and has played authority figures in the films "The Hunt For Red October," "Die Hard II" and "In the Line of Fire."
Thompson dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination on Jan. 22.

I thought he was “acting” to run for President.

He should have stuck with it in the first place. Or maybe he was doing it all along. I was a Fred supporter for a while, until it was plain that he was a flash in the pan.

I thought he was acting to run for President.I don't think that was an act, having a good gig already, but a man not personally committed to the run. Nonetheless, he may have been the best of those running.

He looked that way while he was running.
Unfortunately.
To: decimon
He came very late to the party and then acted like he didn’t want to be there.

I hope he picks up the paul harvey spot again.
Fred was the best dang candidate we had.
I’d put him up against Obama all day long

He coulda been a contender. He was more interested in enhancing his hollywood career than running for President. Look at all the free publicity he got with running for President.

Fred Thompson is getting back to pretending to be commander in chief.
He pretended to be a presidential candidate, what with vacations between most major appearances, etc.
Maybe if he had approached the presidential run as a serious candidate, he might have gone further. But he seemed more interested at appearances Leno, for example, than being at presidential debates.
Not to worry, however. The loyalists didn't get McCain-lite; they got McCain.

He was more interested in enhancing his hollywood career than running for President. If he were a younger man, and a leading man type, then your point would have to be taken. As is, I don't think the presidential run does anything for his acting career or that he would think so.

I knew before I clicked on this link there would be all the “acting” posts.
Whatever his feelings about running, he really was our best choice. Instead of beating on him, maybe we should address the real issue, i.e., our nominating and election process seem to guarantee that we have only poor choices.

Fred should go HOME, and be a FATHER to those babies.
8 years as my senator was more than enough of his being McCain’s twin.

Those who do not want to be President, should be. Those who want to be President, should not be.There's too much truth to that. The thought of being POTUS should stun any rational person.

"...acted like he didnt want to be there."
That was the best part! These walking, talking personifications of blind ambition who wake up each day, salute the voices in their heads and commence their strutting and preening towards their life-long entitlement to the Presidency frighten me. Fred's "All right, if no one else is gonna do it, I guess I'll have to" attitude was a breath of fresh air.
Sigh. Good times.
