BOGOTA (Reuters) - Colombia sought to ease rising tensions with Ecuador on Sunday by saying its March 1 military raid into its neighbor's territory was carried out against a rebel camp used to launch terrorist strikes.
The statement from conservative President Alvaro Uribe came after Ecuadorean complaints that one of its citizens may have been killed in the raid that targeted No. 2 FARC rebel leader Raul Reyes.

I don’t blame Columbia either. A real shame that Equador has a leftist government. It is a fascinating country for climbing and general exploring.

If you harbor vicious, murdering terrorists near a neighboring country’s borders, where they can smuggle, kill, and kidnap your neighbors, you are asking for trouble.

There’s no real reason not to view the murderous scum harbored by Ecuador as conducting ops on behalf of Ecuador.

If I’m not mistaken, Ecuador was implicated as a help to the terrorists on the computers that were found with them. If this is true, I’d say that Columbia has the right to strike in Ecuador any time they want.

Ironically, this plays into the Ecuadorian leader's hands as there is already resentment toward the US over the drug war by spraying toxic chemicals in Colombia and demanding that the indigenous people of South America cease using the coca plant (which they have done for 3000 years).
These type of actions will ensure leftists governments will thrive in South America for many years to come.

"Uribe's term ends in 2010 but some backers in Congress want to pass a measure allowing the president to run again.'
oh the irony.

demanding that the indigenous people of South America cease using the coca plant (which they have done for 3000 years). They haven't been exporting it for 3000 years, nor have they been killing judges, police and regular citizens over the trade. If farmers were only growing it for themselves to chew on as they worked, I doubt the USA would have a problem with them.

Actually they do. The US government sticks its nose into everyone's business. That is why many countries hate us.
Fighting for the Right to Chew Coca
The latest affront, they say, is a recommendation this month from the UN's drug enforcement watchdog, the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), that Bolivia and Peru criminalize the practice of chewing coca and drinking its tea. The move has provoked widespread anger and street protests in the two countries, especially among the majority indigenous populations. For them, coca has been a cultural cornerstone for 3,000 years, as much a part of daily life as coffee in the U.S. (La Paz is home to perhaps the world's only coca museum.)

That is why many countries hate us.Some folks will hate us no matter if we have any dealings with them or not, just simply because we exist, and are free.

That is definitely why the radical Muslim world hates us, but I think Bolivia just thinks we should mind our own business.

Sorry. Ineffective and wasteful foreign policy is ineffective and wasteful regardless which side supports it.
I believe in solutions. You are driven by ideology.

I think Bolivia just thinks we should mind our own business.Probably, but I think those here in the US who have to deal with cocaine addicts on a regular basis might think differently.

Almost as convincing as "Bush Sucks". And, of course it is you that decides whether stopping the flow of life destroying poison into America is ineffective or wasteful.

By any measure possible, Plan Colombia has been a waste of money and it has turned countries like Ecuador and Bolivia against us. The whole thing was started by Clinton anyway, and expanded by Bush, kind of like the whole mess in Kosovo.
Plan Colombia has now turned into a counter insurgency battle, which plans always do when they fail to accomplish their original intent. The spraying of crops actually has resulted in increased output of cocaine.
