The US Marine Corps has placed two follow-on delivery orders worth a total of $715m with BAE Systems for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles.
Under the new contracts, BAE Systems will build and deliver 1,024 Caiman-based Category I vehicles and 447 RG33 Category I and II vehicles (bringing the total to 3,150 Category 1 and 1,927 Category II vehicles respectively).
BAE Systems anticipates that the Caiman award, worth $481.8m, will include spares and increased contractor logistic support.
The RG33 order, worth $234m, involves the production of three special forces command vehicles, 51 ambulance variants and 393 RG33 Category II 6x6 MRAP variants.
Delivery of all the vehicles will begin this August and is scheduled for completion by November 2008.

One thing to survive the blast, another thing to suvive the blast and still be able to drive away from harm.

One thing to survive the blast, another thing to suvive the blast and still be able to drive away from harm. Most of the time, the insurgents plant IEDs and then run away and hide.
Usually they do not try to confront the US military because it would mean sure deaths for them.

SOP for islamotards, along with targeting women and children. F*king cowards.

Here is some empirical evidence on the toughness of these vehicles. I'll try to include the power point that accompanied it. Here is the blurb. UNCLASSIFIED ALL; As you may know, a new vehicle (called the MRAP) is being fielded to combat units in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not too long ago, one of these vehicles (being operated by a US Army unit) hit a 500 lb IED. The vehicle was nearly destroyed. A soldier suffered broken ribs, but everyone walked away from the incident. I read from one man, who said "these vehicles are nearly as impressive as the men who choose to operate them."
