BROWNSVILLE - A 23-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on charges of being part of an auto-theft ring that was allegedly stealing tractors.

Tirso Alamillo was charged with six counts of theft of a motor vehicle and one count of engaging in organized criminal activity, police Sgt. Jimmy Manrrique said.

The auto-theft ring was stealing large machinery from construction sites, according to a police report.

"The ring is accused of stealing six back-hoe tractors ... and a motor grader tractor," Manrrique said. "These vehicle are worth (a lot) of money on the black market and are believed to have been routed to Mexico through the Laredo area."

More arrests are expected in the near future, he said.

Alamillo's bond is set at $35,000.

Ole Tirso was just helping along our huge trading deficit with Mexico. It’s nice to export some USA goods the other direction for a ‘change... si se puede.!

Mexico. The Kleptocountry. Why buy anything when you can just steal it from your neighbor!

He's lucky...It's a good thing he's not a 'typical white person' or he could have ended up like an in law that tried that same stunt, only crossing state lines with heavy stolen equip. They hit him in Bonnie & Clyde fashion. Died in a fed prison finally due to the massive wounds.

I’d like to know if the keys were left in the stolen tractors... the various state agencies here in FL leave them roadside with keys in pretty regularly ...

The same key will start all tractors for a given brand. It is not like cars and trucks where they are keyed differently. I can take my John Deere tractor key and start any Deere tractor and drive away with it.

I’ve noticed that since Mexico changed their laws regarding letting vehicles be brought into the country that I see a lot less of those running the interstates driving one and towing a second and headed towards the border.

They maybe having to switch what they are bringing in.

The “key” in construction equipment is universal to each manufacturer, that is, Caterpillar has one key, Case has one key, John Deere has one key and so on. The answer is Lo-Jak, this has been an option for sometime. The problem is, if they find your equipment in Mexico getting it back is very difficult, the Mexican Police are in on the scam.

Mexico is a corrupt shit-hole, the immigration problem when the Mexican government reforms or we close the borders and the Mexican people reform it.

This is a major issue all along the border. Construction sites around here are regularly ripped off. Vehicles, tractors, welders, mobile homes and more are stolen and usually end up in Mexico. Just part of the fallout of the border mess.
