According to the New York Observer Huma Abedin was born in Kalamazoo Michigan but her parents took her at the age of 2 to Saudi Arabia where Huma Abedin lived in Jeddah Saudi Arabia until her return to the US for college education. From the New York Observer article on April 1 2007:

Reliance on post-Ataturk Turkey for any support of supposed Islamic practices is misleading and wrong. Democracy exists in Turkey only because the Turkish military and the secular bureaucracy squelch Islamic dominance. Before Ataturk, Turkey was like any other current Islamic nation - barbaric, inhuman, and theocratic.
I like to tell people who discuss Islam with me that Osama Bin Laden is not an aberrant muslim. In fact, he lives his life as the Koran and the Hadith dictate a muslim should live it. The concepts of dhimmi, kafir, umma, jizya, dar-ul-harb, and taquiyya describe Islam in its entirety.

Oh for crying out loud, neither party denied because this has not been in any mainstream or out of mainstream paper. Only in the postings at FR have I seen it and only in the gossipy way that people post who have nothing else to say other than rumors and innuendo. WHy should anyone deny anything.

I don’t get this perverse interest in Hillary Clintons sex life,,there is something very unseemly and unmanly about it if you ask me.
Frankly, I would love to see more “Islamic moderates” but the very concept is an oxymoron. I’ll repeat - the only moderate muslim is, ironically, an ex-muslim. Islam demands total adherence; dissidents, atheists, and agnostics who are found in all other religions don’t exist in Islam because of the muslim intolerence to deviations from Koranic prescription.
Not to prove my point but I’ve lived for 25 years as a memebr of the minority in a muslim-majority area. My “moderate” muslim friends and colleagues (some of whom drank alcohol and listened to rock) still believe that 9-11 was either a fraud or the work of the Jews.
Sorry - nothing I’ve experienced/seen re: Islam convinces me that there is any room for moderation in Koranically-governed Islamic societies (that constitute the vast majority of the OIC).
