Landmines would be a cheap and effective solution to this problem. They could be used as a temporary measure until a border wall is completed.

the group was detained after crossing in an area with intermittent fencing

Intermittent fencing. A flawed idea, I think. Kinda like chinks in the armor, a quart low, a taco short of a combination plate, a french fry short of a happy meal, a house of cards, not playing with a full deck, achilles heels, you know, all sorts of metaphors about inadequacy. In fact, I predict that the interlopers came through where the fence WASN'T (just a hunch). WTF?????

Went through Bisbee and many other border towns last October. Border vehicles everywhere including check-points many miles from the border. But the area is so huge, I don’t know how they can stop all of the illegals.

This is funny.

Last night I was driving West on I-8 just short of Gila Bend; up on the shoulder ahead of me, I saw a group of people walking along the interstate.

Sure enough. Got up close to them, they had backpacks, all of them looked like central Mexicans - not the typical Spaniard types common to Sonora. Just strolling along the emergency lane of the interstate, no big deal. Probably their coyote decided not to pick them up for whatever reason, so they decided to walk it into Gila Bend. Maybe they could just apply for jobs at the McDonalds! Too bad Arizona has e-verify laws...

But the whole thing is clearly ludicrous. No one even gave them a second look. They were clearly un-afraid. So they know - no one will stop them! They'd probably have to kick a BP agent to get that to happen. Or throw a rock at him.

Once they're past the border, ain't no problems...

This article is silly. Fifty people? Probably 2000 got through the same area about the same time. And are now bouncing around the American interior, doing whatever...and no one gives a crap.
