SIERRA VISTA Forty-seven Mexican nationals who crossed into the United States illegally were apprehended Wednesday night by the U.S. Border Patrol south of Bisbee.
About 11 p.m., the group was detained after crossing in an area with intermittent fencing, Tucson Sector Border Patrol spokeswoman Dove Haber said. The area was near the delineation between the Naco and Douglas station Border Patrol subjurisdictions, nearly due south of Bisbee.
The group was picked up by Naco Station Border Patrol agents on ATVs, with Customs and Border Protections air and maritime helicopter support, Haber said.
Border Ping
Intermittent fencing. A flawed idea, I think. Kinda like chinks in the armor, a quart low, a taco short of a combination plate, a french fry short of a happy meal, a house of cards, not playing with a full deck, achilles heels, you know, all sorts of metaphors about inadequacy. In fact, I predict that the interlopers came through where the fence WASN'T (just a hunch). WTF?????
Yeah, isn’t it interesting. The original fence plan called for fencing only the “hot spots” on the border. When I heard this I couldn’t believe anyone would be dumb enough (even in D.C.) to not realize the illegal traffic would simply go around the fence. I finally decided the real plan was to build some small segments of fence here and there so they could later declare they built fence and it didn’t work.
Went through Bisbee and many other border towns last October. Border vehicles everywhere including check-points many miles from the border. But the area is so huge, I don’t know how they can stop all of the illegals.
There is a way,.. but the GOOBER-ment don’t wanna do it.
I agree. I should have added that without a wall, there’s no way to stop thousands from getting in illegally.
There are only three roads out of the area. When they had a checkpoint on each road, apprehensions were way up. Now that the checkpoints are gone, apprehensions are down.
Coincidence? Maybe...
With all the money that will be given to the gubbmint (to spend freely) on April 15, they know our tax dollars will be able to support another five million illegal immigrants this coming year.
For the past five years, I write that check to the IRS and cringe. Because I have no say as to where my hard earned money goes. (And, I KNOW where it’s going.)
I am buying food stamps, education, medical care, etc. for the entitled illegals. And, my retired neighbor is desperately trying (and praying) to sell her little house, because she can’t afford to pay for her prescription medicine AND utilities and food on her meager Social Security check.
Last night I was driving West on I-8 just short of Gila Bend; up on the shoulder ahead of me, I saw a group of people walking along the interstate.
Sure enough. Got up close to them, they had backpacks, all of them looked like central Mexicans - not the typical Spaniard types common to Sonora. Just strolling along the emergency lane of the interstate, no big deal. Probably their coyote decided not to pick them up for whatever reason, so they decided to walk it into Gila Bend. Maybe they could just apply for jobs at the McDonalds! Too bad Arizona has e-verify laws...
But the whole thing is clearly ludicrous. No one even gave them a second look. They were clearly un-afraid. So they know - no one will stop them! They'd probably have to kick a BP agent to get that to happen. Or throw a rock at him.
Once they're past the border, ain't no problems...
This article is silly. Fifty people? Probably 2000 got through the same area about the same time. And are now bouncing around the American interior, doing whatever...and no one gives a crap.
