Between Barack and a Hard Place
rcp ^ | 3/22/2008 | thomas lipson

Barack Obama's speech on racial issues showed him at his best. Serious and inspiring, it was the finest speech on this crucial issue in many years. It was effective politically, too, since it staunched the bleeding. Unfortunately for Obama's candidacy, he has already suffered deep political wounds from his close association with Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and the damage cannot be undone.

As effective as Obama's speech was, it still evaded the hardest questions, which will linger and rise again in the general election. It soared above the most divisive issue affecting racial politics today, affirmative action. Obama has spoken about that at other times, suggesting that poverty should be added as another criterion for affirmative action, but he has not renounced traditional racially-based programs. The voters have.If Obama gets clobbered in Pennsylvania, which certainly could happen, the Democrats are going to be in deep trouble. They will fear they are stuck with a candidate who cannot win the general election but who cannot be denied the party's nomination. If the Super Delegates try to give that nomination to Hillary, the Party would shatter.

John McCain is fortunate to be out of the country, traveling through the Middle East. He quietly picks up momentum and doesn't even have to comment on this. Who could have thought that walking through Iraq with a flak jacket was the safe place to be?

I really agree with Lipson that Obama has suffered a wound he will never recover from. He does not realize it, nor do most Dems, but even if he survuves the primary, there is no way he will win the general election. Too many people are on to him, the hypnotic spell he cast is now broken, and the 'typical white person' has had their eyes opened to what Obama really stands for.

Why shouldn’t McCain comment on this? That would be a good thing.

It is a bit early to assess how effective Obama's speech was. We will see real, measureable results in the PA and IN primaries on April 22. We do know that Obama is plummeting in the polls. Some may well argue that the speech was a mistake and that it branded him as the Black candidate. Time will tell.

Many ‘typical white people’ have had their eyes opened to the African-Attitude of Obama’s church. Some of these white people have worked with blacks and had no idea the blacks hated them so much. Now they know and will never doubt it again.

Many white people are astounded that the explanation for the African-Attitude’s gimme component is nothing more than a clinging to the reparations goal of blacks. Next these people afflicted with the African-Attitude will want sharia law.

It seems all the MSM and a lot of others are slobbering all over what a great speech he gave. Personally I thought it was a big load of BS so as to slither out of what the America hating preacher said. You never see Barack wearing a flag lapel pin or any other sign of his loving his country.

Also, teaching their children the African-Attitude at home and in their churches is what keeps their children from learning scholastic skills in our schools. These children come to school proudly wearing the hateful African-Attitude as a shield against cooperating in their classrooms and absorbing knowledge. No amount of taxpayer money can fix that.

and the 'typical white person' has had their eyes opened to what Obama really stands for.

On such little bon mots have countless careers been self-sabotaged.

No parsing can cover-up this little leak from the heart = he was answering a question on the phone, no carefully constructed script.

It came from his core - it's what he believes, what he's been programmed to believe by his Svengali puppet master.

We should make bumper stickers, paint T-Shirts, have hats made:

"Typical White Person" = and wear from now until Nov.

If anyone accuses a "Typical White Person" of racism for it, ask them "What do you mean?" and make THEM give "O"'s real meaning then say: "Oh, is THAT what he meant! How racist."

Obama and his people haven’t figured out that with preachers like his, preachers like Jackson, preachers like Sharpton.....there will always be racism. If there wasn’t, they wouldn’t make any money and that’s what it is all about. These people need to keep the blacks divided or they would be out of business and the media loves it.

Also a big problem for him is that he can’t sit around crying about how every little thing said about him is a racial attack. It seems at least his mentor, if not him also, is the biggest racist of all. He was doing okay a back when he didn’t say anything about his race and everyone had the feeling we had all risen above it. Now that all you hear about is his blackness, and thank you Hillary for getting the ball rolling, he is going to drop like a rock. Let the mud slinging begin.

Obama has a good speaking voice, but that's about the totality of his performance in that speech. It was nothing but racial drivel from beginning to end. A lame attempt to draw a moral equivalence between outright racism and hate (which Obama tolerated and funded at Wright's church) and an innocent and legitimate fear his poor old grandmother had of a black panhandler who hounded her.

Obama’s grandmother took him in after his black father abandoned him and his white mother ran off looking for another man. The old lady took an extra job to help pay for his education. She was on her way to work at that job when the bum began hounding her for cash at the bus stop. The fact that she was afraid of the creep is seen by Obama as the vilest racism on her part, worthy of ridicule in both his book and his speech, notwithstanding the fact that she welcomed him into her home, loved him, raised him, and financially supported him. In contrast, Obama chose to sit in the pews of a vile, racist, hate-filled “church” for twenty years and to give thousands of dollars to the hate-monger in the pulpit.

And many in the media think it was great that Obama compared those hateful diatribes to his grandmother's fears, or to blue collar whites objecting to losing their jobs because of race preferences. Obama proved himself to be one of the most racist men in America.

Haven't run any campaigns lately?

As he has correctly stated, there's no need to get into this battle.

Let them bite and kick and scratch each other to bits...as the country watches and thinks: "These are the people that want to run the country?"

To jump in between to fighting dogs is to have the two dogs stop fighting each other and turn on you...which is just what the MSM would do

As McC has said, when they get it settled, then he'll do battle with the one left standing.

Meanwhile, people will see him going about his public business, calm and cool - a reminder to people that the Republicans have long since wrapped up their campaign in a timely and bloodless fashion.

And they look at the utter chaos of the whole spectrum of what's going on in the dimRat party Who would you rather trust to run the country? People who can't even run a campaign...

the speech branded him as the Black candidate

Barry crossed the line from being an inspiring, well spoken politician who happened to be black, to being a "typical black politician" from Chicago's south side.

I was listening to the local socialist station in SF last night and the pinkos are in chaos. All of the elevated thinkers black and white are wetting their pants over Hanity and Limbaugh for all of the lies they are telling about Smellery and Obama.
