If Reverend Wright is correct that the US Government invented the AIDS virus to destroy the black man (Steyn makes the marvelous point that AIDS is entirely useless against moral people), it has been known for centuries that disease as a weapon is moderately effective at best.

The US released penicillin resistant gonorrhea in Viet Nam, and look what that did. In the forties, they released tularemia (rabbit fever) to control the rabbit population. Now you have to be extremely careful with handling wild rabbits after you shoot them to avoid getting tularemia, and they're as plentiful as ever.

Even if he's correct, the Wright Reverend has driven home, once again, that government programs fail, or succeed poorly, no matter what the purpose. I'm sure Senators Obama and Clinton would agree with me on that obvious point. /sarc

The US released penicillin resistant gonorrhea in Viet Nam...

Do you happen to have a cite for that?

I was in the Philippines and Vietnam in the ‘60’s. I never believed that story. Assuming the US DID release such a strain of gonorrhea, what happened to it? After 1970, it was never heard of again. If it’s gone, what got rid of it? Ice picks? Napalm? 33 beer?
