“The US released penicillin resistant gonorrhea in Viet Nam...”
I was in the Philippines and Vietnam in the ‘60’s. I never believed that story. Assuming the US DID release such a strain of gonorrhea, what happened to it? After 1970, it was never heard of again. If it’s gone, what got rid of it? Ice picks? Napalm? 33 beer?
I had always heard that the US released penicillin resistant gonorrhea in Viet Nam. Apparently that was wrong, and I appreciate the correction. I always wondered why and how the US could do something that stupid.
I did a little research and it appears that there was penicillin resistant gonorrhea in South Viet Nam, but it was caused by the government giving penicillin to prostitutes to keep them free of disease, which is thought to be the reason the resistant strain developed. One part of my statement was correct, but one part was mis-stated.
