Christian pilgrims mark Good Friday in Holy City

Psalms and incense filled the air of the Holy City of Jerusalem on what is known as Good Friday, as thousands of Christian pilgrims from around the world prayed along the traditional route Jesus took to his crucifixion. The faithful, several of them bearing large wooden crosses, walked in procession along the cobblestoned streets of Jerusalem's Old City, following the Via Dolorosa, or Way of Suffering, where Jesus is said to have carried the cross on which he was later crucified by the Romans.

"This is where Jesus suffered, and we are following in his footsteps," said Flora Seguirante, a doctor from Toronto, Canada, her voice quivering with emotion. "I can't describe my joy at being here, at praying here."

...Incense filled the Holy City's narrow streets, where the Good Friday worshippers crossed paths with Muslim faithful, prayer rugs slung over their shoulders.

The procession set off under bright sunshine outside the Monastery of Flagellation, where Jesus was beaten, mocked and crowned with thorns.

It concluded at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is built over the sites where many Christians believe Christ was both crucified and buried.

"I can't believe I'm here," said Maura Mendos, a 54-year-old homemaker from Texas as she reached the Holy Sepulchre.

"Being here gives me a give spritual lift. It's a dream come true."

The route trodden by the pilgrims is based on a devotional walk first laid out by the Roman Catholic Church's Franciscan order in the 14th century.

The Christian Gospels teach that on the third day after he was crucified, Jesus rose from the dead. That event is commemorated by Easter, the most important day of the church year to most Christians.

A Blessed Easter to all and to my fellow freepers and their families. Jesus Christ has changed my life, when I am not at peace, He brings me peace - why do they fear Him so much? He is the Prince Of Peace, so why are we fellow Christians: Catholics, Evangelical Christians, etc, always trashed in today’s society?/Just Asking - seoul62......

A Blessed Easter to you too seoul62!

I think Christians are trashed because the Left makes politics through anger and the message of Christ is to turn the other cheek.

The Left want people to remain angry because that is how they get their base of voters motivated to go cast an election ballot, so they see it as important to keep people away from Christ.

While on the other hand... the Right makes politics through patriotism and Christian values which is positive politics.
