PYONGYANG, March 22 (AP) - (Kyodo)—North Korea is aiming at winning more than 10 medals during the Beijing Olympics this summer, an official of the country's Olympic committee says.

Jong Hae Man, vice director of the DPRK Olympic Committee's technique and training subcommittee, told Kyodo News that so far, about 50 athletes are training for 10 sports North Korea has qualified to compete in during the Summer Games.

DPRK is the acronym of North Korea's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

When asked about the number of medals North Korea will try to win, Jong said, "Our aim is 10 or more."

North Korea won four silver and two bronze medals at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

Jong, 56, said sports North Korea will be competing in include women's soccer, weightlifting, judo, boxing and marathon.

He said the country may also compete in wrestling and synchronized swimming, depending on the outcome of qualifying tournaments that will take place by May.

I would be leery about the gold medals if its real gold it might be radioactive or if painted gold poisoned.

Seems like their country would be better served if they aimed to take home 10 chicken wings. Word is those medals are still a little tough even after slow basting.

Perhaps Kim Jung-il himself will compete and will all the medals. I seem to recall reports that when the Dear Leader first tried golf he hit holes in one on about half the course. Regardless Kim will be given glowing credit for whatever medals they might win.
