Is the speech doing more harm than good?
Primetime Politics ^ | March 21, 2008 | Krauthammer, York, VDH, Lowry et. al.

In his hour of political need,Barack Obama went to his base - the media. He delivered a speech about the nation's racial divisions that couldn't possibly get anything but lavish praise from the press, burying for now the controversy over his longtime pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

A gifted writer, Obama can plumb depths most politicians can't, and he spoke truths about the state of race relations in America in an unusually frank and subtle way.

But Obama's speech, like his congregation at Trinity United Church of Christ that he described so lyrically, contains multitudes. Swaddled in all the high-mindedness was rhetorical sleight of hand about the Rev. Wright.

I think it absolutely did more bad than good. His base of loonies is going more googoo over it but people who think for themselves can see through this nonsense. I hope, at least.

If she feels that God should damn America; then, maybe she should go back to Africa. She will quickly find out what damnable living really is.

People heard him compare his white gramma - who raised him after he was first abandoned by his black father, who went back to Africa, and then by his mother = and gramma raised him, loved him and made sure he got the best of educations...

And he labels her a racist on a par with the Rev Bullfrog.

Later, in a phone conversation with a newsman, he tries to mitigate his statements by saying, well, it's not that he believes her to actually be racist - she's just "a typical white woman"

second foot in mouth...

That little phrase leaked out his REAL anti-whitey sentiments, learned at the knee of his surrogate daddy, Rev Bullfrog.

and those four words woke up a lot of people who hadn't been paying real good attention...

Those 4 words may be - hope to God - the worst four words he ever uttered.

Walking around with a sign like this should be good for a 308 reception from your neighbors.

I had a dream last night that Obama embraced his white half and was Republican. Turned out he was destroyed by the media for being a Christian.

Of course. Plus, this whole Wright thing assures an LA riots type scene when The Obama finally losses this election

Back to Africa? She’s no more from Africa than I am from Wales. My great, great grandfather lived there. Big deal. We are all Americans—so God damn ourselves? That is the touble with their logic, you are only a victim of your past if you want to be. It really is a choice.

The speech proved in the mind of many Americans that Obama is the same old convoluted race baiter who will go to any lengths to blame the hatred and shortcomings of African Americans on white Americans.

If he would have come out and said, “In a roundabout way, I thank God every day that Africans were brought to America so they too could have a chance to be prosperous and free”

I would have more respect.

Did you see the rally when Richardson anounced his backing of Obama? The idiots in the stands were going wild! They have no idea what he said in his speech and do not care about what kind of influece this "so called church" has on his poliics.

Who are these 1000's of idiots that fill these arenas?

And where is Michelle?

Is Obama’s speech doing more bad than good?...

it did some good...it exposed to the mainstream what b. HUSSEIN..his church...his lib/dem followers are all about...

once people see it...maybe when they get behind the curtain in the polling place...they might have a moment of clarity and vote against b. HUSSEIN/the lib/dems and what they are all about!!!

“I think it absolutely did more bad than good.”

Probably. But guys like Richardson, I think, got excited with the liberal templates, logic, and resolutions, and failed to closely examine the speech’s words, which are a psychiatrist’s rich pickings.

I hope these idiots go to Denver for the Dem Convention and join in the Re-create 68 riots.

We have no idea where she is from. She should just go somewhere else.

I hope for her sake that she does not go to a country where they shoot people protesting.

As a suburban white woman, I am so proud to be an American after hearing Senator Obama’s speech. I wish more Americans could understand the unique talents Senator Obama brings to the table at this time in our history. One wag on TV said it best: “I felt he spoke to me as an adult.” I could not agree more.

Really? /s

Thinking is a God given ability as is reason.

Sadly enough we have evolved to the point that many find these attributes unnecessary and just accept all rhetoric as truth then roll over and go to sleep.

Depends on if you are a Republican or a Racist Democrat.

It opened Americas eyes to the REAL OBAMA’s BELIEFS and the ones he would force upon his kids and America if given the chance. He will not prevail with this hate teaching disguised as religion.

They need to be offered before they can be accepted.

What are they????
