Obama and the Jews: you thought maybe you could get away without this discussion? If you did, then you misunderstand the quadrennial ceremony in which constituencies parade their fears so that candidates may adjust their pandering. It was Tim Russert who introduced the inevitable controversy into the "national conversation," at the debate in Cleveland. In his style of interrogation, Russert has evolved from a small-town prosecutor with a Google search in his hand into a game-show host with a trick question up his sleeve. ("Senator, if you were given actionable intelligence that a mass suicide was about to take place in response to an ethnic cleansing, would you, as commander-in-chief, use American force unilaterally, in defiance of EU diplomacy and in the absence of a U.N. mandate, to lift the siege of Masada?") In Cleveland, Russert confronted Barack Obama with the awkwardness of Louis Farrakhan's endorsement. "Do you reject his support?" It was a yes-no question to which Obama bizarrely failed to reply with a yes; and only Hillary Clinton's preening saved him from the spectacle of his inadequacy. Russert then broached the embarrassment of Obama's pastor, and his racialist and anti-Zionist assertions. Suddenly the wild broodings of the Jewish blogosphere were erupting into prime time.

Russert's questions were both unfair and fair. Reverend Wright's worldview has an unmistakable Durban-like quality, but he was plainly responsible for a spiritual transformation in Obama, and so Obama quite understandably loves him. I have myself loved rabbis whose politics I abhorred, though I have to add that in some instances the evidence of their hate caused me to take back my love.

As regards his own leanings and belief's, I believe that Obama does not leave the Trinity Church for one simple reason. Despite his new found disgust in "some" terminology Wright has employed, Obama has bought into and agreess with the theology that the church teaches. He is raising his kids in it.

Most of us feel the same about the christian churches we attend. If they depart from the theology that we accept in our hearts, we leave them and find a congregation and doctrine that we subscribe to and will make better men and women of us (through the atonement of Jesus Christ) and allow us to help others.

The Black Liberation theology subscribed to by Trinity is what Obama subscribes to. He's been going and donating to it for twenty yerars. That theology, is the admitted theology of Reverend Wright and the congregation. Wright admits that he preaches his brand of that theology based, in part, on the works of one James Cone...who describes that theology as follows:

""Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.""

Sounds like a form of Jihad to me.

That theology accepts a perverted and wrested interpretation of Jesus Christ because it describes him as a poor black man (or man of color) living under oppressive white European rule (the Romans) and that he was as much about social change as he was spiritual. He therefore meets their criteria for a God who supports their black power insurgency against what they describe as the ruling rich white men and women in America.

They have perverted the love, peace, forgiveness, and inner focus (spiritual focus) of Christ and His atonement which teaches us that we change within, and when we are healed spiritually, then the outter man follows... and they have turned turned him into a social radical, hell bent on political and social change at any cost who supports their hate and "revenge" to suit their needs.

This is the message about Obama and his "church" that needs to be spread. I do not believe it is at all subscribed to by most blacks, and certainly not by society at large. But it has been hidden and flying under the radar in these churches and for political correctness purposes has been heretofore untouchable. But now the cat is out of the bag.

It is shocking, is is disgusting...and it is dangerous.

This same type of liberation theology has been used for decades in Latin America to pervert Catholics and goad them into rising into Marxist rebellions in class warfare. That is what this is...and it is the version accepted and practised by black radicals in this country and it is intent on changing this country into a socio-marxist state where wealth, opportunity, and position opr not earned by individuals, but instead are handed out by the state...and in this case they simply want to be the ones redistributing it all.

Obama is good at speeches where he has total control. He fails when put on the spot and will drag out and answer to use up more time so the moderator will not have time to ask another question. Political sneakery me thinks.

unfortunately there are thousands and thousands of self-loathing “progressives” of jewish heritage that will be voting (D) no matter what. Especially around the NYC area. I’ve talked to a few here in Seattle at a party a few weeks ago and said they were voting for Obama. They were giving me the “hope and change” line about how america needed a new direction. I’d love to hear their opinions now, but I’m sure they will like robots being punching (D) on the ballots no matter what.

Good post Jeff. It’s hard to believe that anyone would say that they “must” reject God’s love if God doesn’t agree with their political agenda. That’s not a Christ centered life — it’s a politics centered religion.

It is sickening.

I never thought I would live to see a day when such a perversion of Christianity would become the bedrock belief (as attested by his twenty year mebership, attendance, and donations) of a leading presidential candidate in this country, regardless of party.

People who follow this guy after all of this are either blinded by a strong delusion, or are simply complicit and in agreement with this wholly unchristian and unamerican ideology.

Suddenly the wild broodings of the Jewish blogosphere were erupting into prime time.

Wild broodings in reaction? Well, Obama would say they're "typical Jews," right?

It is idolatry.

By the by, here in S. Florida the Jewish women my wife is friends with are not liking Obama one bit after the Farakhan stuff. In the states with a big Jewish population like Florida and New York Obama will get hurt by Jewish voters, I think.

Good analysis Jeff Head.

There also exists another bastardized Christianity, that predates Black Liberation Theology, that I call Aryan Christianity. This is the belief that Jesus was an Aryan and died only for the White Race. They have their own warped interpretation of the Bible to support it just like Wright’s group. I have read that Hitler’s favorite composer, Wagner, believed in this version of Christianity.

One BIG thing that the Black and the White hate groups have in common is they both hate the jews with equal passion and so they have to reject Jesus’s jewishness in favor of their own race cause celeb.

“Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy.”

Hmmmm. Seems that in my reading of the Bible it says very little about God participating in the destruction of the white enemy.

I think that perhaps they don't worship the same God that I do.

Leon Wieseltier's moral equivalence doesn't wash for me. If I knew a person was a racist, I would have nothing to do with them. Obama knew Wright for twenty years and never protested, never said a word and never walked out of the church. He remained silent. What does that say about his judgment?

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus

Interesting take. Though I’ve heard about Christians who hate Jews, I’ve never actually met one. But I’ve never even HEARD of a Christian who doubted Christ’s Jewishness, including Hitler.

Wieseltier’s is typical of the view of the Jewish leftist, who takes every opportunity to bash Jews and others who are legitimately concerned about the saftey and security of Israel and the Jewish people in the US and elsewhere. How a discussion about Obama somehow brings up the mention of Likud is an indicator of Wieselthaler’s leftist bias.

From my Jewish perspective, I do not consider Hitler to have been a Christian. In fact, he feared the influence of Christian clergy in Germany so much that he persecuted those who espoused an anti-Nazi ideology.

You’re quite right. I should have said “gentile,” but even that rings hollow.
