Call him Barack O'Bama - for he's got the luck of the Irish.
The very week he faces his toughest obstacle ever - one that may still derail his candidacy - Obama gets a near-game-ending pot of gold.
It now appears certain that Hillary Rodham Clinton's efforts to rewrite party rules in a desperate search for a lifeline have failed.
Her absurd proposal of counting her "wins" in Michigan and Florida - long after everyone agreed they wouldn't count - has been laughed off the table.
And now, it appears, there won't even be any revotes.
While revotes are the only way to resolve the matter justly, they would have been problematic for Obama ever since his insane preacher - who makes the Black Panthers seem docile - became a household name.
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright would have terrified elderly Democrats in Florida and blue-collar whites in Michigan.
But Obama's luck doesn't end there. The timing of this whole mess couldn't have been better, because it competed for airtime with Eliot Spitzer's sexcapades.
The tapes have been around for years but came out only after Obama established himself as a solid front-runner.
And when they finally got widespread attention, it was during the longest spell of the campaign without any contests.
The next primary is still more than four weeks away in Pennsylvania, where Obama was going to lose anyway.
But luck is never just luck, and Obama works very hard.
The Wright scandal has been Obama's Gennifer Flowers moment.
And just as Bill Clinton handled that first great bimbo eruption, Obama handled this quite deftly.

Obama is the George Jefferson of 21st century politics for all the need for change it seems Obama wants to take us back to the 70’s.... Typical Whitey...
“America wins.”
Gosh I hope that is the final chapter.
His speech will help him with the Dims in the rest of the primaries. He deftly fed into their “white liberal guilt”, but that won’t help him in the general election where he needs to win the Indipendent vote. So the Dem Party continues on it’s path of self destruction.
yeah. I think Michigan will go republican. Florida is a given.

He’s not a big “O” ... he’s a big “0”.
The Hillary backers are not buying his speech at all. Read the columns by Lanny David and Susan Estrich in which they trash his speech. These are mainstream domocrats who are actually making sense and calling obama and his church for what it is, a black liberation racist church. 1 in 5 Dems now say they will vote for McCain rather than Obama and the same goes for Obama supporters. The Dems are destroying each other. It is the equivelent of mutually assured destruction.
I thin Hillary will actually benefit from the failed attempts at revotes. Look..she wins PA big..picks up a lot of popular votes..and she’ll do great in Peurto Rico as well, now that they switched from a caucus to a primary..So at the end, she’ll be very close in the popular vote, and very close in delegates, then she’ll be able to say tot eh supers..”look, if we had ANY kind of a contest in FL and MI, I’d be ahead now..” In that sense, it makes her argument easier, and impossible to refute..
McCain is spineless.
I think that’s a very serious concern.
According to Zogby and Rassmussen yesterday, his poll numbers over this Wright issue are damning.
Bigtime.
The media can play it as they wish but the key voters that really matter to this black racist are lost.
The Dems are stuck with a very vulnerable candidate.
Breaking News on Fox!!! The group that was suing the DNC to seat the Florida delegaqtion has lost its case the Federal Apellate level. Thats more bad news for the Wicked Witch.
McCain’s father was an Admiral. McCain’s grandfather wss an Admiral. McCain’s rank was Captain, the equivalent of Colonel in the Army. John wants to top what his father & grandfather did by becoming President.
Great work Grampa
I'm actually starting to think McCrazy has a chance (but not because I'm going out to vote for him). I am po-white-trash-made-good (so now I am over-taxed white trash) but back where I come from, I used to know tons of country-white folk who were very racist against blacks (not that we actually had ANY in the whole county). While they try to talk politics, my general impression looking back is that none of them ever voted in their life. However they will make a special effort to go down to the fire house (cleaned up from the latest weekend wedding no doubt) and cast their vote against the n--. I loved those folk and their backwoods ways but sheesh - I don't miss that life at all.
Hillary’s people need to make the argument to the super delegates that Obama is not electable, so of course they are not going to buy into this speech.
But I don’t buy the claim that they will vote for McCain, they’ll vote for anyone who has a “D” after their name.
The author seems ignorant of the supers.
Hillary WILL be the nominee, regardless of the delegate count going into the convention.
And the “disenfranchised”, perpetually aggrieved victims will stay home and not vote for her.
Ahh... but he violated "the bargain". He was not to bring up the past injustices and they were to not seem him as threatening.
Justifying the grievance mongering was a violation.
