Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America.

Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation. White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to.

Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the '60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.

It started with family oral tradition which sparked my interest. I started my research online and eventually went to Virginia to look at court records, but most anything you’d need would be available on the web today. Rootsweb,Genealogy.com, ancestory.com. Virginia history and Southern Families books are also helpful. I met a distant cousin who was also researching and we traded info so that helped the process along. The fact that my surname isn’t particularly common helps a great deal. Talk to your cousins, aunts,uncles, and grandparents. Chances are someone knows the oral history and it’s a great starting point!

While I disagree vehemently with his politics, I was very hopeful that Obama’s successful run (whether it ended in victory of not-—hopefully, not, from a policy standpoint) would be a wonderful step forward in demonstrating that—at last—the race-baiters are officially over

Obviously Obama is comfortable in the company of racists, which brings the issue to the forefront. There'll be no lack of similar opinions from the other side. We'll see how the conversation develops, I suppose the result could be the complete rejection of racism, but I fear you're right, we'll be reliving the same arguements.

Its very difficult to have a civil rational discussion about ANYTHING in this country anymore but race is even more emotional and brings out the worst in everybody.

It is from the mouth of the man Obama chose as a mentor, and who chose to introduce his children to faith. The equivalent would be a candidate immersed in Christian Identity or the klan, who, of course, disagrees with the most extreme views, but remains silent none the less.

Yes, it does come down to worldview. Christianity teaches ‘pick up your mat,’ it teaches personal responsibility, it teaches one to rise above whining and blaming others, it teaches forgiving over resentment, it teaches honoring character over race and living an honorable life, in spite of all odds.

But BO’s church teaches and values NONE of these things.

I believe they are not teaching Christianity at all. (duh, huh?)
