(Adds Rogozin, government official quotes, details, background)

MOSCOW, March 20 (Reuters) - Russia has requested an emergency meeting of the Russia-NATO council to discuss U.S. authorisation for arms supplies to Kosovo, Itar-Tass news agency quoted Russia's envoy to NATO as saying on Thursday.

U.S. President George W. Bush on Wednesday authorised arms supplies to Kosovo, saying it would "strengthen the security of the United States and promote world peace", according to a document on the White House Web site.

"I have addressed NATO's secretary-general with a proposal to hold an emergency informal meeting of the Russia-NATO council to discuss U.S. plans to supply weapons to Kosovo," Tass quoted Russian envoy Dmitry Rogozin as saying in Brussels.

"They (Washington) say the weapons will help fight terrorism. At the same time, it is namely former terrorists who are in power in Kosovo right now," Rogozin said. "How can you fight terrorism, supplying weapons to former terrorists?"

So selling arms to the KLA, and that is what it still is, will “strengthen the security of the United States and promote world peace.”??? This is like something out of the novel 1984. The US State Department must be emulating the Ministry of Truth.

Once again now I regret voting for Bush (would 4 years of J. Kerry have been so bad?). EVEN the Russians (in many cases with their leaders former Communists/KGB) are making more sense than our supposedly “conservative” President these days..?

Whatever happened to the “Bush Doctine” of no quarter for terrorists (and terror sponsoring states?). That woul include Kosovo against Christians (Serbs)!

So selling arms to the KLA...

Who said anything about "selling"? These arms will be given to them.

Kerry would have done the same thing!

The clinton administration had already devised the plan!

"Who said anything about "selling"?"

Ah yes, even worse then. They can be supplied along with the US financial aid that will have to be provided to prop up a non functional economy. The US has created a terrorist client state in Europe, divided the EU, and driven Serbia into the arms of Russia. What more could the US hope to achieve?

Yeah, but . . .

You have to laugh at Russia’s quote. “They said the weapons will be used in the fight against terrorism. At the same time, the current Kosovo authorities are former terrorists. How do you fight terrorism by sending arms to former terrorists”

Well, technically, Russia’s doing the exact same thing in Chechnya and elsewhere.

I’m not defending the US policy on Kosovo here. The quote *is* appropriate. I just wish the Russians would take their own advice.

The Russians are trying to sucker the Serbs, and the Serbs are too angry to think.
