CAIRO, Egypt - Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden will be issuing a new message timed to the fifth anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, a militant Web site with close connections to the group said Wednesday.
"Urgent, very soon by the will of God," read the announcement of the new message "the response is what you see and not what you hear, by the warrior sheik, Osama bin Laden."
Iraq marked the fifth anniversary of the war on Wednesday.
The announcement was text only and showed no pictures of the elusive militant leader.
The message would be bin Laden's first for 2008 and follows up an hour-long, late December audio missive in which he warned Iraq's Sunni Arabs against fighting al-Qaida in Iraq and vowed new attacks on Israel.

I bet this will be yet another message with no proof of life. Until that guy appears in a video holding the latest issue of Playboy, I feel certain he is dead. And I believe the US news media will begin to speculate about it just as soon as President Bush leaves office, and not before.

I knew about the speculation that Gadahn was dead, but this is the first I have heard about the possibility that Zawahiri has assumed room temperature. I THOUGHT that he appeared in a video tape after the strike in which it is believed that Adam was made into hamburger helper. Have you seen reports that Zawahiri may be dead too?
That would be HUGE because it is generally thought now that he is the actual brains behind the operation, whereas Bin Laden, who I have believed to be dead for some time, was just the fundraiser.

I was reading in The Economist from last week that a US sub launched a missile and took some AQ nut leader out in Somalia....I dont recall that being reported.
It was and is unconfirmed...so take it as a rumor.
Being dead for a few years can't do much for his looks either... or if he's not "dead" the surgery to make him look like a woman must be demoralizing.
Check the edits and electronic tricks on this one. Within 20 minutes of hearing it the CIA will declare it a real Bin Laden tape even though Swiss labs and others will document the edits. This a-hole has been feeding worms since Tora Bora.
