CHRIS Cox for VP?
The Orange County Register ^ | March 17, 2008 | Robert Novak

Posted on 03/19/2008 9:37:25 AM PDT by Clintonfatigued

Former conservative colleagues in the House of Representatives are boosting Christopher Cox, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission since 2005, to be Sen. John McCain's vice presidential running mate.

A White House aide under President Reagan, Cox served 16 years as a congressman from Newport Beach and was chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee. He was named as a federal appeals court judge to begin President George W. Bush's administration, but withdrew after Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer of California announced her opposition.

Former Rep. Rob Portman of Ohio, who also was a member of the House leadership before joining the Bush Cabinet, is being promoted for vice president by Washington insiders. But Cox's backers in the House argue that Portman lacks Cox's stature in the conservative movement, which they say McCain needs.

Did I say “predeccor?” Why, yes, I did. For the record, a predeccor is very, very much like a predecessor.

The idea that there's no difference between to two parties is for children. Get a grip.

I didn't suggest that idea. The remaining half who call them selves Democrats are radicalized. But the half that call themselves Republicans are still liberal.

Ah yes...that's why George W. Bush (hardly Reagan, is he?) would be welcomed with open arms if he switched parties and asked to give the keynote speech in Denver.

I bet if he had always been a Democrat and became president and engaged in liberal foreign policy (neo-conservative foreign policy), he would be warmly welcomed. All most people care about nowdays is having the (D) or (R) after their names...and this thread proves it.

Nothing McCain does is going to help him. He cannot find a person conservative enough to make up for his participation in McCain Feingold, mexican amnesty, and on and on. There isn’t a person that conservative on the planet, and if there were, he would not run with McCain

McCain has his eyes set on Lindsay Graham or even Lieberman. I think he's going to go with Jeb Bush. Gotta keep that dynasty going, you know.

If Lindsay Graham is nominated for running mate, watch for all the poofs to come out of nowhere telling of experiences in hot tubs and french-kissing on the dance floor.

There is no perfection in this world. The candidates in question are running for political office, not sainthood.

“Conservatives are generally much more informed than the average voter.”

That’s very true.

you act as if there's no war on.

That rings awfully hollow in the light of the fact that your man is the champion for tens of millions of foreign nationals who are here illegally. And nobody knows who they are.

If anyone "acts as if there's no war on," it's John McCain.

You could use such empty rhetoric to justify nearly anything.

Shoot, you could use that kind of language to justify support for Barack Obama, or even John McCain's good friend Hillary Clinton.

Suuurrrre it does. But hey, look on the bright side: Maybe the imam they assign you will be in favor of tax cuts.

Yes, and what's really great is that once Hillary or Obama gets elected, they'll close that border lickety split.

Yeah, by all means, let's have a porous border and stop pursuing the enemy anywhere outside our borders. That'll really show 'em who's boss! You're like a guy who says, "It makes me really mad that you tried to stab my left front tire with your switchblade, I demand that you stab all four as a punishment for your behavior."

Like I said, enjoy your new imam.

So you admit that John McCain will no more provide border security than Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama will.

One more for the McCain "making friends and influencing people" file.

I think only an idiot would believe McCain will be any better on border security. It's possible he might be ompared to them, but I'm not counting on any improvement. But it also takes an idiot to believe that this country will be less secure under McCain than under Hillary or Obama, or even that he wouldn't be vastly superior to them.

One more for the McCain "making friends and influencing people" file.

Your imam will decide if my posts were offensive or not. Keep that "making friends and influencing people" line in mind the next time you tell people that they're "already in hell" if they decide to vote for national security.

you're just urging a temper tantrum that will hand the White House to an anti-semitic chihuahua for eight years.

Nope. If Republican partisans insist on supporting a liberal like McCain, then Republicans are responsible. Not conservatives.

I've decided that if a person too liberal for my tastes is going to take office, I'd prefer to support the one who is sane,

What an absolutely silly statement. The election process is still in the primary phase. There are still MORE THAN 4 MONTHS UNTIL THE CONVENTION.

If you don't like McCain, get rid of him. It's your party.

I Agree! I hope he does choose Lindsay Graham!

That will be the end of both of those liberal hugging fools for good!

Over-the-top fear-mongering hyperbole, used to bludgeon conservatives, is not helping you make your case. It just makes you look desperate already.

Oh my... this is new territory...I haven't come across an FR post too stupid to respond to before.

Yeah, we're really going to be able to throw McCain overboard. Heck of a plan.

You're right...for a moment there I had this wild idea that there were millions of people desperate to kill us and that we had two surrenderist morons trying to get itno the White House. Thanks for talking me down. I'll look forward to the Obama and/or Clinton White House because it will make me feel so calm and principled.
