England's lost daughters
FrontPage Magazine ^ | March 18, 2008 | Stephen Brown

What Muhsen did not know was that, before the trip in England, her father had arranged her marriage without her knowledge to another Yemenite’s fourteen-year-old son, accepting $3,000 as the ‘bride price’. This man escorted his “purchase” to Yemen with the young girl, ignorant of the fact he was her new father-in-law. Muhsen’s equally unsuspecting sister, Nadia, 14, who arrived in Yemen soon thereafter, had also been sold into marriage for the same price; but her husband was thirteen.

So instead of a dream trip the two girls would always cherish, the first-time travellers found themselves stuck in a barbaric nightmare. It was 1983. Their youth and school days were now over forever.

It's incredible this sort of thing happens all the time all over the world. More people need to become aware of this, then maybe they'd get their heads out of the sand and realize that WE'RE not the bad guys.

I've had Americans argue with me that arranged marriages are wonderful and that some cultures really depend on them, and who are we to tell them that it's wrong, and WHY AM I BEING SO JUDGMENTAL? You know, that's why the world hates us!!

Liberalism is a mental disease.

Yeah, but my Grandma once uttered a racial epithet, so it all balances out, you see?

"So instead of a dream trip the two girls would always cherish"

First mistake was to believe that a trip to YEMEN could be such a "dream trip" -- but this is horrible, when will these bestial tribes stop selling their children and enter the modern world? Much to be critical about in modern civilization to be sure, but slavery, forced marriage, and all forms of involuntary servitude need to go into the dustbin of history!!

The story states that the threat is from “South Asians.” Now, if I correctly recall, Hindus (India) and Christians (South Korea) make up a large proportion of those areas.

The politically-correct piece can't go so far as to say that it isn't the race or geographical area that is to blame for this, but the primitive ISLAMIC ‘faith’ that is to blame. It is this radicalism that sells women as slaves in a country that renounced slavery prior to the US.

England is one great example. “Amazing Grace,” indeed.

Tradition? http://youtube.com/watch?v=gRdfX7ut8gw Basically the same frame of thought in the mid east. Not necessarily attributed to the jews, they all have their traditions.

In the UK they refer to middle easterners as Asian. So no, not Korea or India.

“Liberalism is a mental disease.”

So true. Only diseased minds can believe that up is down, down is up, wrong is right, and right is wrong. Logic is a foreign concept to them.

multiculturalism is a failure.

They are not Englands girls, they are as far as their parents third worlders.

These people are uncivilized and not ready for western ways.

When sharia law becomes accepted in England as the Arch Bishop of Canterbury suggests the purchase of child brides will be an everyday occurrence.

Women are expendable to the Muslim, and annoyance best settled by a cash transaction , or a bullet to head, a knife to the throat(even better because it satisfies their preternatural lust for blood bathing). If a new Holy Man comes along and tells them to marry goats, do you doubt they wouldn’t hate the west because we somehow made all the goats sterile so as not to bring Abdul a goat boy child? Ridiculous you say?, read the Koran, it is an howling tome of idiocy.

It is not only Muslim peoples who practice arranged marriage.

Arranged marriage pre-dates Islam. It is a very old and conservative practice.

“They are not Englands(sic) girls...”

Of course they are not. Nor do my children belong to the Federal Government. First and always, they belong to my family. We all feel that way, right?

How many Amish people swap money for it? How many Amish are in “forced marriages” rather than “arranged marriages”?

There's a huge difference between Hindu and Christian arranged marriages and the Muslim “forced marriage” with its money component and its young age of indenturement

I thought it was a racial stereotype, which you know is much worse.

They do this simply to blur the ethnicity of the people so as to not smear Islam.

It is an entirely politically correct attitude.

What do they call the area of Korea or India? The “United States”?

I am not well-versed in the marriage customs of the Amish. Nor do I see that they are relevant to this conversation. But if they are, perhaps you could enlighten us.

You draw a distinction between “arranged” marriage and “forced” marriage. What exactly is that distinction?

This is a softball article on the issue of arranged and forced marriage. It may help you understand.

http://www.lifescript.com/channels/healthy_living/Family/arranged_marriages_in_todays_world.asp?page=1

I'm not against arranged marriage, and, in fact, I have friends who are in arranged marriages, almost all of whom are from India. I have a Muslim friend who is in an arranged marriage, but I do not know if it was “forced” and have never broached that topic with him.

There is much positive to be said about arranged marriage in this day of divorced marriages. Arranged marriages often have better social support to get through tough times, and such marriages are not generally started with unrealistic expectations of the partners, who must still choose to marry their chosen partner.

I actually know of two marriages, done under the most sordid situations, in Central America. There is a “custom” in some Central American countries in which young teens are kidnapped and forced into marriage. It is barbaric. The families whose daughters were kidnapped later reunited with their daughters, but they were still “married”.
