An off-duty Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy arrested on suspicion of drunken driving early Tuesday pleaded with Hales Corners police to let him continue driving home, saying, "You can't do this to one of your own," the incident report says.
Sheriff's Deputy Christopher P. Conell, a 12-year veteran of the sheriff's office, was pulled over by a Hales Corners police officer about 12:50 a.m. at W. Grange Ave. and S. 110th St. after the officer observed Conell's car drift across the center line on W. Grange Ave. three times, according to the incident report.
Conell, 34, failed multiple field sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.22, almost three times the amount considered evidence of intoxication, the report says.
The arrest came as Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. doubled patrols for St. Patrick's Day to bust drunken drivers.
"It's embarrassing when the kind of behavior we implore the public not to engage in is exhibited by one of our own law enforcement officers," Clarke said in a statement Tuesday.
The sheriff's office, with the State Patrol, arrested 38 people on suspicion of operating while intoxicated between 2 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the incident report:
Before the arresting officer was able to explain the reason for the traffic stop, Conell produced his badge and said, "Come on, man, I'm like two blocks from home, just let me go. Please, please."
Conell's speech was slurred and his breath smelled of alcohol.
A few hours after the arrest, Conell told the arresting officer that if he had stopped an off-duty law enforcement officer, he would have let the officer go.
"You know how many cops I have stopped and let go? Hundreds," he said. "If I saw a car smashed up against the wall and it was a cop, I would let it go, man. You did not have to do this to me."
Conell, of Hales Corners, will be placed on administrative duty while an investigation is conducted.

So it's ok with you guys if police officers drink and drive, it's only civilians who are required to be sober while driving? I see. Your attitude, and the attitude of the drunk police officer caught driving are the reason people HATE police officers. They abuse their power.
The fact that it is surprising that a police officer did the right thing and arrested a fellow police officer while he was endangering the public shows just how corrupt most police are. Think about it.
Regarding your second paragraph, that is precisely WHY I posted the article. I wanted posters to see the quote from the arrested officer, namely:

It is refreshing to read of one officer willing to cross the Thin Blue Line. Landru is absolutely correct in pointing out the inevitable war between local police departments that is sure to ensue.
So behaving justly is throwing someone under the wheels? Hmmmm. . .I don't think so.

There is a big difference between the local cops in the suburban communities in Milwaukee County and the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Ofiice. Hales Corners has a small, but professional department. They aren’t going to have any problems with the neighboring police departments — the MCSO, maybe, but the Sheriff Clarke will probably throw this deputy under the bus.
The MCSO are primarily traffic cops and bailiffs.
This deputy was at .22 just a few miles from one of the worst drunk driving crashes in recent years.

Taken at face value, when you describe someone as being “thrown under the wheels” usually thats considered a bad thing. If you were happy about it, you certainly didn't indicate that in your post. Sarcasm, doesn't translate well in written form, and expecting people to be able to read your mind in order to understand your posts is a waste of everyones time. Thats what /<sarcasm tags were invented for.
The problem was not that your metaphor was ambiguous. Everyone knows what “throwing someone under the wheels” means. The problem was that you intended to use it sarcastically, but failed to indicate that you were doing so.
