DETROIT The City Council on Tuesday asked Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick to resign in light of evidence that he had lied under oath and plotted to cover up an extramarital affair with his former chief of staff.
The 7-to-1 Council vote is not binding, and Mr. Kilpatrick has vowed to remain in office.
Nonetheless, the Councils action is a political blow for the mayor, and support for the measure was greater than expected. Council members spoke highly of Mr. Kilpatrick but said he could no longer govern effectively, given the scandal that has enveloped Detroit for nearly two months.

The Eliot Spitzer Of Motown. Unlike Spitzer, Kwame Kilpatrick is not going to go quietly.

There is progress in Detroit. Coleman Young would have terrorized anyone who dared confront him for his crimes.

Not going anywhere and he’d be re-elected in a landslide if it were held today-guaranteed.

Mayor for Life Kilpatrick is in the fine tradition of Mayor for Life Young.

Of course he is a Democrat. No way a Republican would get elected to anything more than dog catcher in Detroit.

Oh those damn white racist Republicans on the city council....
While I have not seen photos of most of these people, I assume most if not all the council members voting against Kilpatrick are black. Is this not correct? There was a picture on the web of protesters calling for the mayor to step down and most of them were black too.

Doesn't much matter what this guy does.
Detroit is a cesspool. The Islamoturds are sitting back just bidding their time waiting to claim this area.

Probably just an oversight on the part of the New York Times but, yes, he is a Democrat.
This guy is the most arrogant sob that has ever destroyed a city. This story has so many legs it is becoming hard to keep up with.
Of course, the only one who voted no on the resolution was Monica Conyers. Guess who she is married to?

Between him and Obama, Detroit could get stirred up a bit this summer by the party and race of peace.

He can’t go. There is no one in Detroit who is as qualified to hold that office as he is.
To: nmh
He’s got to be a Democrat since the story doesn’t mention his party affiliation.
To: nmh
Of course he is a RAT. I don't know how effective he is as Mayor but he parades around looking like a thug in all black attire moving from place to place in a caravan of black SUV’s. Bodyguards etc. Like something out of a movie about an African dictatorship. Lots of accusations about corruption and illicit parties/affairs. Typical.
In the Detroit Free Press there were short comments from about 20 people/agencies. 19 said he should go and he was a disgrace. 1 said we need to focus on jobs and Michigan's future and refused to mention Kwame. That was Granholm's office. The Republican AG publicly called him a liar and demanded his resignation.
