McCain Weighs in on Gun Ban Case
The Corner on National Review Online ^ | March 18, 2008 | David Freddoso

Posted on 03/18/2008 4:59:16 PM PDT by Delacon

The campaign's release speaks for itself:

ARLINGTON, VA — U.S. Senator John McCain today issued the following statement on District of Columbia v. Heller:

"Today, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on District of Columbia v. Heller, a landmark case for all Americans who believe as I do that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms. I am proud to have joined in an amicus brief to the Court calling for a ruling in keeping with the clear intent of our Founding Fathers, which ensures the Second Amendment rights of the residents of District of Columbia are reaffirmed."

McCain's position on gun rights is now, on paper, superior to that of the Bush Administration, whose lawyers have taken a more moderate tack in merely asking for the case to be remanded to the lower court.

Since I wrote this piece, McCain has taken concrete steps to appeal to conservatives on the three key issues of guns, babies, and taxes. He won't win the votes of all conservatives, but he's doing exactly what he should be doing right now to reassure the base.

But McCain is falling off the wagon on Global Warming. If he sells us out on that, nothing else will matter.

-——McCain has been trying to close a non-existent “gun show” loophole for years-—basically by shutting down gunshows with paperwork.

But McCain is falling off the wagon on Global Warming and on Immigration.

If he sells us out on those, nothing else will matter.

Between Carbon Extortion and Handing the Southwest back to Mexico, Mad Johnny is a LONG way from appealing to ANYONE who is an actual "conservative".

Not to mention "Campaign finance reform", "the gang of 14", I-might-be-a-Democrat-but-only-my-mommy-knows-for-sure, etc etc ad infinitum.

Good, John. But, I feel like I need to tell you this. You and nobody else, were ever going to get my guns, period.

Wildly overstated.

I think not. If government controls Carbon Dioxide production, they control everything.

“Oh, and in case you haven’t been paying attention to my record, I like guns, at the moment.” - McCain

Actually, it is more like "The right to own guns is fundamental, but the government can do whatever it likes to make gun ownership impossible".

I fully expect McCain to swing right before the Republican convention, swing center before the general election, and swing left once he's in the White House.

No it doesn’t. We still have the right to vote and to change the direction of the government. We have the right to bear arms and defend ourselves. We have the right to private property.
CO2 hype is only one of the challenges facing our nation.

I’d say that’s not a completely crazy prediction. But there’s also this to think about. Let’s presume he’s been acting loony left all these years just to get publicity from the MSM and talk radio. He’s an attention whore. Once he’s got his butt seated in the oval office, he’s made it. THere’s nowhere else to go. Now what can he do to rile people up and make them talk? And for what reasons? Who will he try to suck up to and who will he try to piss off? What will his motives be for doing so?

I’m very curious just what mccain has in store for us and the world. He’s a soldier, first and foremost. So I think he will turn to soldiering primarily. Then everything else will be secondary to him.

At least he’s pretending to be more conservative, as opposed to Barack & Hillary, who pretend to be more liberal. Wait a minute...they ARE more liberal. Never mind!!!!

NO! He is a whore first and foremost. So I think he will turn to politiking primarily.

He can kiss ass with the best of them. Right now he’s holding his favorite backstabbing knife in his left hand, you know so he can shake hands with his right, pull you in closer. Just when you think he’s going to hug you, you’ll feel the pain.

Barack & Hillary, who pretend to be more liberal. When the facts are presented, they are both true communists.

I so miss Thompson and Romney, but if I recall McCain’s position on this matter, he has stated that he would give treaties and legislation consideration only if Russia, China and India were parties to the same regulation. That is tantamount to saying that he won’t throw the left wack jobs in the dirt any more than he will throw dirt on the right wing wack jobs. He has simply has carved out a position that will protect him from ever having to give ground to the Climate Change groups. They have never been about anything beyond cultural engineering.
