I had a really good post all ready to go. There was a video posted by the Trinity United Church of Christ, which I found on their YouTube page, of Louis Farrakhan being honored with the Jeremiah A. Wright Trumpeter award. It's gone from YouTube. And there was a video of disgraced Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick receiving a similar award. It's gone from YouTube, too.
But the one I'm really mad about is the one of the church's new pastor, Otis Moss III, talking about gangster rap and crack cocaine. They pulled that one, as well. Maybe it had something to do with his blaming gangster rap on suburban white kids and big corporate media. I didn't really follow his logic, but somehow Ronald Reagan and AOL were involved and there's a hint that the same people who created gangster rap also created crack cocaine.
Although the video is gone, this blogger has a partial transcript:
Moss, continuing on his historical review of hip-hop: "But then something happened in 1984 at the same time that Time Warner/AOL and SONY and MCA realized they could make money off of this music, guess what, we will give you a contract and distribute your song if you put in the N-word, if you put in the H-word, if you put in the B-word...so when we talk about gangsta rap, we are not talking about something that came from the street, we are talking about what came from the corporate boardrooms...
"And the same time that gangsta rap rises, we also have crack hitting the streets...I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but it's mightily strange that gangsta rap and crack hit the same time in our community."
I guess I'm just cherry-picking, right?
GEE. I WONDER WHY.
Google is already censoring me. Have been for a couple of weeks.
Really?
I’m sorry to hear that.
“Do no evil,” what BS.

Of course this will make everything fine- we can pretend it never happened.

Wow, that's mighty big talk for an Arab who's only, what, something like 1/16th black?
*chuckle*
How do you say "chutzpah" in Obamics?
Actually, I believe it's, "Don't be evil," in which case it comes down a question of what "be" be. :)
