McCain Arrives in Baghdad for Surprise Visit

BAGHDAD — Sen. John McCain, the likely Republican presidential nominee who has linked his political future to U.S. success in Iraq, was in Baghdad on Sunday for meetings with Iraqi and U.S. diplomatic and military officials, a U.S. government official said.

Details of McCain’s visit, which had been anticipated, were not being released for security reasons, the U.S. Embassy said. It was unclear who he met with; no media opportunities or news conferences were planned.

McCain, a strong supporter of the U.S. military mission in Iraq, is believed to be staying in the country for about 24 hours.

“Senator McCain is in Iraq and will be meeting with Iraqi and U.S. officials,” said Mirembe Nantongo, spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

This is the senator’s eighth visit to Iraq. He’s accompanied by Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent, and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. Before leaving, McCain said the trip to the Middle East and Europe was a fact-finding venture, not a campaign photo opportunity.

I DO remember the terrific controversy about them. At the time I didn’t follow the story closely enough to know whether the concerns were genuine or an MSM invention.

Pretty old frat boys. :D

At least they are SEEING what is going on instead of just
conjecturing and posturing about what they BELIEVE is going on

It’s one of the few things that I commend him for doing.
Supporting the troops is HIGH on my list of things to support
for any candidate!

The left is an idiot bunch. Give them food, clothes, and shelter, to hell with their freedom. (I honestly believe that’s how they think). It really is depressing to try and figure out how freedom doesn’t register with where they stand today!

I’m high on supporting the troops too since I was one for over 23 years. I still think these three traveling together to Europe are going as much for good times and publicity as for serious business... Even if they do make a stop in Iraq.

As much as I dislike McCain on just about every other issue, I salute him for being right on Iraq.

You are right about BHO vs. HRC. My daughters and I will be voting for flop ears in the Pennsylvania Primary. My wife is still reluctant to change her regisration.
