McCain Arrives in Baghdad for Surprise Visit
Associated Press via FOXNews ^ | March 16, 2008

BAGHDAD — Sen. John McCain, the likely Republican presidential nominee who has linked his political future to U.S. success in Iraq, was in Baghdad on Sunday for meetings with Iraqi and U.S. diplomatic and military officials, a U.S. government official said.

Details of McCain’s visit, which had been anticipated, were not being released for security reasons, the U.S. Embassy said. It was unclear who he met with; no media opportunities or news conferences were planned.

McCain, a strong supporter of the U.S. military mission in Iraq, is believed to be staying in the country for about 24 hours.

“Senator McCain is in Iraq and will be meeting with Iraqi and U.S. officials,” said Mirembe Nantongo, spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

This is the senator’s eighth visit to Iraq. He’s accompanied by Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent, and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. Before leaving, McCain said the trip to the Middle East and Europe was a fact-finding venture, not a campaign photo opportunity.

This tour will clearly contrast McCain’s suitability to handle the global dimensions of President with that of Puff Barry, who I believe is meeting with Hugo Chavez...

Not a campaign photo op, eh? Modesty won’t win it in November.

Oh, I am sure there will probably be photos, but we just have to see. At least he is also visiting the troops. Kerry never bothered when he was campaigning

Well, that’s good. I guess. Of course, he has to spoil it by going with Lindsey Graham and Joe Lieberman (who’s ok for an Independent, I guess).

But it’s not exactly inspiring. I’d feel better if he went with some actual conservatives.

Is he just trying to rub our noses in his RINOness?

Well if we can stop beating up on Obama for at least a few more weeks, this November will be a cakewalk. Obama is the weakest Democrat presidential candidate since George McGovern but Rush Limbaugh and his crowd are doing their best to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by handing the nomination to the Clintons on a silver platter. If you are like me and and already sick and tired of the “Comeback Kid” hoo-hah, you ain’t seen anything yet and if we let the Clintons get back off the mat, there is no way in hell they will let the November election slip through their fingers. They will cheat, lie, and even kill if they have to. But they will win.

Brilliant. Act like you're already President while the other two BBQ each other.

Totally agree. If Hillary becomes the eventual nominee and then president, Rush, Hugh Hewitt et al should resign in disgrace.

Barry is the George McGovern of this era. We need him in the election. The Clintons would be much tougher opponents.

The Iraq trip is a good move by McLame.

What do you find wrong that Joe Liberman is accompaning him? Senator Lieberman is a big supporter of the war on terror

Kerry never bothered when he was campaigning.

Same problem Hillary and Barak have. It's hard to look like a Commander in Chief when you're being booed by the troops.
