The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton essentially even in the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. It’s Obama 46% Clinton 45% (see recent daily results). This reflects an unusually sharp change from yesterday’s results when Obama led by eight points and reached the 50% level of support for the first time. Daily tracking results are collected via nightly telephone surveys and reported on a four-day rolling average basis. Last night’s results were very favorable for Clinton and it remains to be seen whether this marks a lasting change in the race or is merely statistical noise. Single night results are based upon very small samples and are more volatile than the overall tracking poll.

Looking to November, John McCain now holds a slight lead over both Democrats in the General Election. It’s McCain 47% Obama 42% and McCain 46% Clinton 42% (see recent daily results). It appears that Clinton’s challenges to Obama may be helping McCain at least in the short-term. McCain’s polling numbers against Obama began improving during the run-up to the hard-fought Democratic Primaries in Ohio and Texas. Obama has a three-percentage point edge over McCain among unaffiliated voters but is currently supported by just 65% of Democrats. By way of comparison, McCain earns the vote from 80% of Republicans.

Obama will most likely still have more normal delegates than Hillary when the Dem convention begins. The super delegates will have to take it away from Obama.

The big question now is how the blacks will see his loss of the nomination. If they see it as a "whitey holding them down" scenario, I'd doubt they would redirect their support to Hillary.

Yes Wright's sermons are abominable! The Republicans could have easily tied him to Obama after he got the nomination and McCain could have carried 45-48 states leaving Obama the District of Columbia and at the most five other states.

"I would simply be uncomfortable being in a campaign that would be inevitably attacking Barack Obama," said McCain adviser Mark McKinnon in an interview with NPR's "All Things Considered." "I think it would be uncomfortable for me, and I think it would be bad for the McCain campaign."

The only thing that we can do now is to ask Republicans in PA, NC & In to crossover and vote for Obama. If that doesn't happen, Hillary's momentum might allow he r to catch him. I'd rather he have a huge delegate lead going into the convention, then if she steals it, it will create a backlash.

was it just a month or two ago when the consensus preference was for Hillary!, as she was much more beatable than Obomba. And now, its switched to being Obomba as the more beatable.

Goes to show that events will shape things, and not random events, but 'man'-made and campaign-made. Once past all the conventions, I'm expecting a steady, periodic, perhaps-weekly barrage of made-for-MSM attacks by the Hillary! gang against McCain, while the McCainians have little in the way of return volleys.

The Republican party wasn't responsible for the info about Obama's pastor coming out...talk radio was. The same thing could have happened at a time closer to the convention or just thereafter.

But by coming out now, it is possible that white Democrats and Independants will start voting for the Hildebeast in huge numbers. With do-vers scheduled for MI & FL its possible that momentum might lead to Hillary catching Obama before the convention. If that happens then their would be no outrage over her "stealing" the nomination from him.

One thing that you have to realize is that Hillary will NEVER allow Obama to win the nomination. If she has to she will blackmail every living superdelegate to get their vote at the convention. Face facts, Hillary WILL BE the nominee. Our big chance is to make her have to steal it from Obama. That would cause a riff in the Dem party that would impact the presidential race as well as congressional races as blacks sit out the general election.
