2 War Protesters Arrested at Berkeley Military Recruiting Center (Code Pink 'Stickers' Marine)

Two women with the anti-war group CodePink were arrested Friday afternoon when they sat down on the floor inside the U.S. Marine recruitment center in downtown Berkeley and refused to leave, police said.

Dressed in pink and black, Pamela Bennett, 45, of San Francisco, and Mari Blome, 52, of El Cerrito, were arrested for trespassing on private property after being warned several times by police to leave, said Berkeley police spokeswoman Sgt. Mary Kusmiss.

The arrests came during a regular weekly protest at the Marine recruiting center at 64 Shattuck Square. About 40 people attended the protest on Friday, including members of Copwatch, who this week have raised concerns about police crowd control tactics at the protests.

CodePink and other groups have been protesting at the center for several months. The protests have heated up recently after the City Council in late January called the recruiters ``uninvited and unwelcome intruders.''

Kusmiss said CodePink and a group called The World Can't Wait _ Drive Out the Bush Regime began rallying at the center about noon Friday.

At one point in the rally, Marine Capt. Richard Lund returned to the center, where protesters had affixed signs and stickers on the windows. When Lund began removing them, protesters tried to stop him, police said.

Someone slapped a sticker on Lund's back.

When a police officer forced one of the protesters back from Lund, the protester challenged the officer, police said. Tensions rose but Lund did not want to pursue prosecution, police said.

Later at about 3 p.m. the women entered the recruiting center and sat down on the floor, blocking the door, Kusmiss said. Police warned them several times and tried to negotiate with them but they refused to leave, Kusmiss said.

They were both issued misdemeanor citations for trespassing on private property. They signed the citations but still wouldn't budge, Kusmiss said.

At that point, they were arrested and taken to jail. It was not known late Friday if the women had posted bail.

Captain Lund showed a helluva lot more restraint than I would have were someone to slap a sticker on my back.

They know how the game works. If they can goad the recruiter into making any kind of physical response (even if it is with the proper amount of force and is justified), then they can start screaming "brutality", no matter how much they did do provoke the incident. The media would portray them as evil, out-of-control military thugs assaulting "peaceful" grannies who are just protesting the war. They know that they can't be too overt in their actions, but they are getting closer and closer to the line.

Only in America.
Let's just trip down the road to alternative reality land.

Code Pink blocks the door to the military recruiting station in Terhan. They object to the oppressive tactics of the Iranian Republican Guard.
They are beaten with rubber hoses and dragged off bleeding to a soccer field where they are beheaded for treason.
Next Friday, no more protests.

In a nation that values freedom enough to put up with sh*theads, there is nothing more evident of the tolerance and good will of the people than to ‘negotiate’ with stupid people and beg them not to be stupid. When that fails you try again the next week hoping they get less stupid.

Could the Patriot Guard Riders come and spend some time providing a shield against these moonbats?

At this point I would guess that the Captain is just following orders
to maintain his own discipline, which would also prevent him from making it personal.

Just a thought.

Maybe it’s time for some patriotic grannies to take on these “peaceful grannies”. I’m not a granny yet but I am in that age bracket. Perhaps I and some cohorts should bring some knitting needles down to the recruiting station and settle myself down in front of the door.

Although they would recoil in horror at the thought a good sexual encounter with a virile male would change a lot of attitudes about all this for these gals.

If I could wish a fate on Code Stink and the rest of these scum. It would make 1940’s Germany look like a school social.

They are lucky that he did not let combat reaction kick in. I myself never saw combat; however, sneak up on me and you will get a violent reaction.

Well, the "woman" on the right of this photo is Mari (aka "Toby") Blome. Still looking around for a photo of Pamela Bennett.

There has got to be at least a few good men in the Berzerkeley area willing to stand up and defend the Marine recruiters from these America-hating pigs in pink. Hell, if the Berzerkeley business owners had half a brain, they would be out there on the street knocking the crap out of the idiots who are destroying their business.

Go for it. You know what they say about the triumph of evil, if good women do nothing.

Just don't go alone. These people are mental cases whose tantrums have been indulged for so long that they feel they can do anything to anyone without consequence.

Any other Berzerkeley-area ladies willing to join caseinpoint?
