Video: McCain lets Obama off the hook for Wright
Hot Air ^ | March 14, 2008 | Allahpundit

He leaves a bit of daylight between them when asked if he’d go to a church like Trinity — “obviously, that would not be my choice” — but otherwise he’s taking the high road, partly to deflect criticism over Hagee (among other people) and partly because he knows Hannity’s going to beat this drum for him up to and including the morning of the election.

Will Obama at least be booting Wright from his African-American Religious Leadership Committee? Nope. What would it accomplish? The die is cast.

Update: The biggest partisan hack/modern-day Murrow on television muses, might not a battle o’ the pastors actually weigh in Obama’s favor?

I’m surprised he did not apologize for Hannity and Rush using such tough criticism against the Obamunist.

John McCain won't even touch Obama's association with a radical pastor. And he expects conservatives to rally behind him when he's afraid to hit the Democrat hard. Feh

McCain is worthless as a candidate, unwilling to actually campaign, and would be an elected disaster.
He is a leftist on race and religious issues.

I have never before seen a candidate create the talking points for his opponent to diffuse a damning situation.

On what planet is support from a paster (Hagee) the equivalent of belonging to the church of another pastor, accepting his support, and being decade long friends with him?

If he says anything bad about Barak Hussein Obama's preacher or church, his good friend Teddy might not like him anymore.

If McCain can;t even condemn something this awful and blatant what can he condemn? Oh wait, I know, everything conservatives do.

Just another reminder of why I won’t be voting for this clown.

“partly to deflect criticism over Hagee”

Bingo. If he gets involved with the Obama/Wright thing, the media will REALLY unload on him.

I think this is VERY smart for McCain. If he said ANYTHING he would be labeled a racist who didn't understand the “struggle”. He KNOWS that talk-radio and the reluctant media will do the job. Smart! He doesn't have to say a word, and yet still benefits.

Rove, pretty much said as much on FOX. Stay away from the mess and let Obama stew in his own juices!

You got it. He just needs to sit back and let Obama twist in the wind. He comes off looking above it all and not getting “down in the mud”.

I think it’s smart, keeps Obama in the race to fight another day and to keep the Dems divided between Hill and Obama. Plus if Obama doesn’t leave the church (which evidently he isn’t) it leaves ammunition to be used at a later date during the “real” election cycle, i.e. the Presidential race when more people are paying attention.

Why the hell does McCain have to waste his breath on Racist Pastor when its obvious to the whole world?

Did he not get endorsement from Pastor Hagee who doesn’t have a shining Record himself?

Tit for Tat Pastor bashing is not going to accomplish anything.

Hildabeast and Conservative Media would do the damage to Obama.

McCain who has SUCCESSFULLY portrayed himself as ABOVE THE FRAY when it comes to dirty politics is smart to stay away from Racial Politics.

Once again, Red Meat Eaters, just want something that would sound pleasing, irrespective of what damage it would do to the candidate and what sleaze fest it would lead to.

McCain is a loser and a traitor - I have met him personally and could see right through this filthy little midget - we will pay as a Nation when either McCain or Obama or Clinton are elected.

I agree. I think McCain is playing it smart. Stay above the fray, take the high road, and concentrate on the issues.

IIRC, Bob Dole chose to take the high road in the ‘96 election. After all, Bill Clinton was a weak president in his first term, so his being defeated should have been almost automatic.

So much for that strategy. Obama or Clinton, whichever gets the Dem nomination, will play to win.

McCain can take the high road and he will likely find himself back in the Senate with his ‘friend’ John Kerry who is another also-ran.
