A few weeks ago, I was on Radio Times, the mid-morning talk show on Philadelphia Public Radio. My colleague at work, Stephanie, used to live in Philadelphia and raved about the high level of conversation on the show.
Marty Moss-Coane was a fantastic interviewer – informed, funny, and genuinely curious. I enjoyed our conversation immensely.
I spoke about how Muslim history and theology support religious pluralism. I talked about many of my Muslim heroes, scholars and activists like Shaykh Hamza Yusuf and Imam Zaid Shakir who have articulated visions of a world where people from different backgrounds come together in positive ways. --snip--
The phones started ringing off the hooks.
The callers basically had two questions: “Why don’t Muslims condemn terrorism?” And, “Where are the moderate Muslim voices?"
One caller said, “I was raised a Catholic and we were taught love and acceptance. You were raised a Muslim … and you were taught hatred which leads to violence.”
The producer said there were several other callers from different religious backgrounds with basically the same format question.
--snip--
I expanded on many of the points that I had made in the initial conversation with Marty Moss-Coane – that the dominant ethos of Islam tends towards compassion and pluralism, values that Islam shares with other traditions.
But I admit, there was a little voice inside my head that wanted to say to some of these callers, “Don’t you feel a little embarrassed revealing that level of ignorance and bigotry on Public Radio? Do you know nothing more about the religion of one-fifth of humankind for over 1000 years but the violent bits? Isn’t that a little like knowing nothing more about the United States Constitution than the clause which states black people only count as three-fifths of a human being”.

According to Eboo (the author of this garbage), anybody who questions the myths re: tolerence in Islam is a bigot and an islamophobe.
The point is why don't we hear from them??
The violent 'bits'? You mean those 'bits' like slaughtering 3,000 people on a nice Autumn morning in 2001? Those little 'bits'? Yea, I gotta' problem with those little 'bits'.
The Constitution does not state that "black people only count as three-fifths of a human being" - it doesn't mention race at all.
The Constitution argues that the masters of people held in servitude should not be allowed to receive the advantage of counting all their slaves as if they were part of the electorate for voting purposes.
This clause of the Constitution is a disability for slaveowners, and not a belittling of slaves.
Our constitution has been changed to remedy that clause of the constitution. Mohammed has not changed his call to beat your women, kill the infidels, etc.
By the way, the ‘little’ part of Islam that calls for violence has not been rescinded AND it should be held under a spotlight until ‘moderate muslims - if there are any) condeams killing, beheading, sharia law and human rights violations.
He must be a democrat.
Until the ‘moderates’ not just verbally condemn to killings (verbal condemning is only talk) STOP the terroist in your midst or you do not condemn it.
A phobia is an unreasoned fear.
Fear of Islam is perfectly justifed, hence I wouldn’t call it a “phobia”.
We don’t hear from them because they want to keep their heads attached to their bodies.
The Koran is a “complete and perfect work” - to question this concept is apostasy.
To attempt “reform” therefore, is apostasy, and will cause a head/body separation.
If Islam want’s to address “islamophobia” around the world, they must begin by crushing “infidelophobia” within the core and fringes of their own.
Anyone wishing a clear demonstration of Islamic devotion to pluralism and tolerance should check out the current plight of Christians in Iraq. Or of Christians in Nigeria. Or of Christians and Animists in Darfur. Or of B’Hais in Iran. Or of Christians and Bhuddists in Thailand. Or of Chistians in Indonesia. Or of Hindus in India bordering Pakistan.
phobia: an anxiety disorder characterized by extreme and irrational fear
It’s not “extreme” or “irrational” to point out the truth about this violent, backward, and barbaric “religion”.
So, answer the questions.
“Why dont Muslims condemn terrorism?”
And, “Where are the moderate Muslim voices?”
He sidestepped that as usual by turning it around and accusing people of blinkered vision.
Their whole history is full of violence. There are constant cries for death to the infidels even here by muslims living on our own soil.
The guy is so clueless. Isn’t he ashamed to display his ignorance about isalm?
