That may be part of it. But what I really think attracted him to the whole idea was (a) the fact that it was super expensive and (b) the name “Emperor’s Club.” The guy was a nutcase egomaniac, and in his tiny mind, being able to spend that much to buy a woman was a validation of how great he was.
