I agree. The tremendous level of scrutiny this received from federal law enforcement officials, over a very long period of time, and despite rather small amounts of money involved (at least that we’ve heard about so far), suggest that they bumped into other topics of interest early on. Other dealings of “QAT” and the man behind it may be the serious law enforcement story here.

Brent Bozell was on Fox telling the Friends this morning that the Drive-Bys have all omitted Democrat from their reporting. Surprised? Not surprised, but I can say with all honesty that I had *no idea* what his party affiliation was until I found it on FR.
I suspect that would not have been the case if he had a (R) after his name.

#1, promising to step down in the future is *not* the same thing as resigning
#2, Hillary still needs to show her “leadership” by commenting on the man she endorsed for Governor of NY...

Here's my prognostication: Hillary will resign as Senator, Paterson will appoint himself to fill her spot, then she runs as governor, which she would win in a landslide.Hmmm. Didn't even think about that. Wonder what the political ramifications are of appointing yourself as a senator? Any precedents?

GOOD RIDDANCE to a scumbag of scumbags...
One question...Is he an even worse scumbag because he had unprotected sex with his wife after having unprotected sex with hookers? Inquiring minds want to know. I’m sure Tim Russert will be all over that one.

NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigns 5 minutes ago
NEW YORK - Gov. Eliot Spitzer announced Wednesday that he is resigning, completing a spectacular fall from power for a politician whose once-promising career imploded amid allegations that he paid thousands of dollars for high-end prostitutes.
“I look at my time as governor with a sense of what might have been,” Spitzer said, with his expressionless wife Silda standing at his side. “There is much more to be done, and I cannot allow my private failings to disrupt the people’s work.”
Spitzer says his resignation is effective Monday. He will be replaced by Lt. Gov. David Paterson, who will become New York’s first black governor.

If Clinton were to run for governor of NY in 2010 she would once again find herself running in a Democratic primary against a black man with much higher personal likability - and this time that man would be a sitting incumbent.FNC reported that Paterson is much more interested in being a U.S. Senator than being governor. Hillary would have the path paved in gold to run for governor of NY.

HILLARY: I don't have any comment on that, but I obviously am sending, you know, my best wishes and thoughts to the governor and to his family. Let's wait and see what comes out over the next days, but right now I don't have any comment, and I think it's appropriate just to wish his family well and we'll wait and see how things develop.

Well, I posted the following, yesterday. I'm right so far. Hoping that I'm wrong on the Hillary!, piece, though.Whoa. How Machiavellian. Don't know if it's true, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Interesting theory.

Private failings?? If you are a public servant and commit crime....it isn’t private, what you did was illegal. He needs to atone publicly and well as privately. I am thinking jail time. I do congratulate him for stepping down, he showed a little class doing this. More than fellow dem’s usually do.
