Why should the Feds care whether or not he resigns? That should be between him, his fellow Democrats and the people of New York.

If I were a federal prosecutor, I would say: “No deal. If you want to continue to try to be governor while you’re being prosecuted, that’s your business. Personally, I think if I were in your shoes, I’d rather not have to be a criminal defendant while under the glare of the public spotlight as a sitting governor.”

This son of a bitch prosecuted and jailed people for doing the same thing he has done. Why should he get off without serving jail time, if that is the penalty for what he can be charged with?

Disclosure: As a philosophical matter, I do not happen to think discreet prostitution should be illegal. But as long as it is, and since he has put people away for engaging in it, I say nail him.

That is THE question of the day.

It is not clear to me either why his resignation should be a bargaining chip that he can use to secure a sweetheart deal with the prosecutor. Personally, I hope he stays in office the rest of the year so that we can talk endlessly about the Culture of Corruption and let the Dems twist in the wind a bit. In fact, Spitzer has taken that issue off the table for this years election cycle. The Dems have lost a big issue that they successfully ran on in 2006. Life isn't good yet but it is getting better.
