STD study sends message to teens: You're vulnerable

CHICAGO - Startling government research on teenage girls and sexually transmitted diseases sends a blunt message to kids who think they're immune: It's liable to happen to you or someone you know.

In the first study of its kind, researchers at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found at least 1 in 4 teenage American girls has a sexually transmitted disease.

The most common one, HPV, is a virus that can cause cervical cancer, and the second most common, chlamydia, can cause infertility. Nearly half of the Black teens in the study had at least one sexually transmitted infection, versus 20 percent among both Whites and Mexican-American teens.

The study, released Tuesday at an STD prevention conference, has adolescent-health specialists pointing to possible reasons and offering solutions.

Blame is most often placed on inadequate sex education, from parents and from schools focusing too much on abstinence-only programs. Add to that a young person's sense of being invulnerable.

Only about half of the girls in the study acknowledged having sex. Some teens define sex as only intercourse, yet other types of intimate behavior including oral sex can spread some diseases. Among those who admitted having sex, the rate was even more disturbing - 40 percent had an STD.

Now, I wonder how those STDs transfer from one generation to another... Oh, right, can't talk about all the sleezebags that Planned Parenthood protects that prey upon our children, because they're too busy preying on them their selves.

Meanwhile, the promotion of the gay lifestyle, without any references to the health risks it incurs, goes on unabated.

Yeah, and when will the CDC be honest about the safe use of condoms..NOT! Talk about abstinence message not adequate for teens. Let’s hear about the fact that condoms only prevent HIV 85% of the time...which is the best. Not bad, really, but it prevents only 0.3% gonorrhea, and zilch for all others! Let’s talk about the CDC’s message about condom use preventing STDs if used correctly. What’s so difficult about putting on a condom that so many get it wrong, hence the high numbers of STDs? As a school nurse, I am angry about their distorted message to teens! Not once do they ever broach the subject that maybe deferring sex till later would prevent a LOT more STDs in all women!

What a stilted message they offer teens and preteens! It is outrageous!

The number tested was around 838. Supposedly representative of Americans from all walks of life, but probably not.

Still, modern Westerners and Americans are far sluttier than they should be.

There are many cases for why reserving [relations] for after marriage is the smart move; this being only one.

What part of “sexually transmitted” don’t they understand? It’s because of their actions.
It wasn’t the White Power Structure that injected them with a virus. It was their actions.

Will one of the so called "leaders" of the Black Community please explain this? The headline should be "50% of Black Teen Females have STD". I know why the media won't report it. They are afraid of these same "Leaders".
