Dr. Laura: Women Share Blame for Cheating Men
MSNBC ^ | March 11, 2008 | Mike Celizic

Dr. Laura Schlessinger has never been one to shrink from controversy, and she leaped headlong into one on Monday when she said that if a husband cheats, his wife may share some of the blame.

“When the wife does not focus in on the needs and the feelings, sexually, personally, to make him feel like a man, to make him feel like a success, to make him feel like her hero, he’s very susceptible to the charm of some other woman making him feel what he needs,” the popular psychologist and radio personality said.

More commonly known as just “Dr. Laura,” Schlessinger made the remarks while participating in one of several panel discussions on TODAY dealing with the breaking news that New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer had been connected to a high-priced prostitution ring.

“I can’t believe the people in this thread who are essentially justifying cheating. Disgusting.”

No one is justifying cheating. What’s being noted is a woman’s ability to rectify a situation before it ever happens.

How many women are willing to try out new things at home? Willing to go to a sex counselor? If a man tries these avenues to no avail, he’s got several choices:

1) Deal with it
2) Divorce her and wreck his family
3) Cheat.

You can bet #1 isn’t a happy option. #2 is terrible. And #3 suddenly becomes more intriguing—the siren’s songs from the rocks.

I personally couldn’t ever comend cheating. I’m pretty harsh about it, though when I do so it’s generally within the confines of unmarried relationships (seeing as that’s how I sit now). There’s no excuse to cheat in such a relationship—just leave if you’re not happy. No sense being dishonest to yourself and the other.

Marriage infinitely complicates matters. I’ve just always assumed that since I’m an affectionate guy with more of a romantic streak than most that I’ll be fine when that day comes. I can imagine a man let down too many times might begin to have issues, however....

Same as a woman.

I think wifes should not use their husbands sexual need as leverage to control him...

I think there are a lot of wives who view their husbands as pigs for their sex drive, and are willing to do so.

Way to keep women enslaved. If he cheats, it’s your fault because you weren’t a *good enough* wife?

What a bunch of... ***deleted****.

Well, if women didn’t marry guys who would later cheat on them, the cheating wouldn’t happen.

I’ve personally known women who were loving and faithful wives, good mothers and their husbands were cheating pigs.

Yes, far too many of them, not just cheating but totally selfish in other ways too. Then the wife gets dumped, which is an almost sure way to severely reduced standards of living if not near poverty for her and "their" kids.

Yep, some men are pigs. (And I say that being one.)

LOL Hi Randy!

So on the flip side, what is the man doing to encourage his wife to remain interested in the first place? It works both ways ya know!

Are you friggin kidding me??? I get the slobby part but short haired??? as if many many many women with short hair aren’t sexy as hell!

Based on your screen name, I am assuming you are a woman. From a man's viewpoint, long hair is much, much sexier. Your girlfriends who say a short haircut "looks cute" are lying; and what motive does a gay hair stylist have in making a woman look beautiful and sexy?

Think I am wrong? Go ask some of your male friends what they think.

Oh, and with the shoveling and lawn mowing — yep, done while he was at home too. We usually make a deal — kind of like “switching jobs” sometimes. If I do the lawn for instance, he will cook dinner for us. It works out well that way for us. I get a little break from the mundane aspect of repetitive housework, and he gets the “easier” job.

Anyway, since he hurt his back it’s not like I can let him shovel anymore anyway, so maybe I shouldn’t have included that job... It’s a little different when one person isn’t physically able (or the risk is too great to them) to do a specific chore and the other “picks up the slack”. That’s when things are done just out of love, and/or the fact that it needs to be done.

Cannot totally agree with Dr Laura here.

It isn’t the wife who is moving the zipper down on her man’s pants in a location with another woman. A man cheats because he wants to cheat. There is no other way to put it.

Watched the Osmonds on Oprah today...Say what you want about Mormons. There are 9 kids- 45 grand kids and 55 great grand kids of a good mother and father. Some have had more problems than others, but they are still a FAMILY and they behave like one.
It reminded me again that I think we Republicans treated Romney poorly. Huckabee will never get any support from me for his totally unabashed behavior towards Mormons in general. If Huckster wanted to be President, he needto realize that he would be President for all of us- Catholic- Mormons- Baptists- and those of us who don’t attend church on any regular basis. He seemed to be aiming alot of his campaign at Baptists. They have some back steps that need cleaning, IMO.

Tell Laura I Love Her is a very sad song, if it’s the one I’m thinking of.

But this 'she's partly to blame' crap is unreal. Dr. Laura knows nothing about their marital situation, and her comments basically justify his actions. I remember calling into her show about Clinton when he admitted he cheated. She went on a rant against him that lasted at least a month...

This will be the third time I've posted this...

Schlessinger later emphasized that she was not excusing Spitzer’s behavior. Nor, she said, was she saying that his wife, Silda Spitzer, was in some way to blame for his indiscretion.

“I do not know anything about their personal lives,” she said.

But, she persisted, frequently when there is infidelity in marriage, both spouses share the blame.

RTFA!!!!!

Dr. Laura wouldn’t be an attention and ratings craving shock-jock, would she?

Dr Laura is plenty tough on men in a variety of ways.

She also happens to be speaking the truth in this case.

Of course men who act like arrogant, prickly, demanding, dirty, thoughtless, insecure boors are a bit tough to make happy with a lot of kissy-poo without the woman being far too much of an unfitting whipping post.

Nevertheless, most women seem to be clueless about how fragile men’s egos are at emotional, sexual and work related levels so key to the core of their identities—right or wrongly.

Short hair belongs on young boys, soldiers, and fashion models. Anyone else should have whatever length of hair they want.

ALL women are far more beautiful with long hair. The longer, the better.

Some men look better with long hair, too. My hair is just a bit past between the shoulder blades. It hides several of my less nice features. Pity I have to harvest soon, but it’s time...
