Former vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro today defended a remark she made to the Daily Breeze last week, in which she suggested that Sen. Barack Obama would not be where he is if he were white.
In an interview with the Breeze, Ferraro said, "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color), he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."
The comment was picked up by political blogs and cable news shows across the country. The Obama campaign held a conference call today to denounce the remark, and Obama surrogates urged Sen. Hillary Clinton to repudiate it. (SNIP_ But far from backing off from her initial remark, Ferraro defended it and elaborated on it.
"Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let's address reality and the problems we're facing in this world, you're accused of being racist, so you have to shut up," Ferraro said. "Racism works in two different directions. I really think they're attacking me because I'm white. How's that?"

We conservatives have been making the same claims for years. But when we said things like Ferraro said, she and her cronies labled us the racists. Such sweet irony seeing their own arguments turned on them.
The way things are shaping up, the Democrat National Convention is going to come off looking like an episode of the Jerry Springer Show.
I expect to she folding chairs flying and security guards tackling the guests amid the biting, scratching and name-calling. It should be worth video taping.
The Womynists are pissed because they're finding that, as far as the media are concerned, racism trumps sexism as an issue.
GF saying such truths - well it gives one hope!!- even the MarineCorp has a sound policy on hope (it is not a method for success) - that even marxistHumanist can have an ephihany. Now if this ephihany can withstand the oncoming firestorms all will be - better.
What is really fun for the political voyeur here is this - the Dims are having a civil war between a couple of their professional victim groups. The womynists are challenging the (black) race pimps for dominance and control of the Democratic Party. Too bad they can’t both lose.
Yes, she nailed this one.
Love seeing the party of KKK “Sheets” Byrd accusing each other of racism.
Actually, she is correct.
If Obama were a white junior Senator with only three years of experience in the U.S. Senate and with only prior experience as a State Legislator, his Presidential candidacy would be considered a joke. Would it not?
However, if anybody, such as Ferraro, dares to point out the obvious, the Race Card is thrown at them to shut them up.
That most certainly is racism even if it is claimed by Geraldine Ferraro, (See "blind squirrels/nuts" and "stopped clocks/accuracy/ twice per day")
LOL!!! Geraldine....you're going DOWN!!!
Is she really a Clinton backer, because so far she is doing a lot more harm than good.
This race-based political match must be a monstrous conundrum for Liberals. And so delicious...considering it is they who created the monster. What to do? What to do? “ Hey, I’m the victim here”! “NO! I’m clearly the most aggrieved victim!”
LOL
Checked DU, talk about divide and conquer, they’re at each others throats
Never have I seen so many one-legged people in an ass-kicking contest.
Go Gerry Go.
“Is she really a Clinton backer, because so far she is doing a lot more harm than good.”
No, she’s not.
She’s reinforcing the “But, Obama’s BLACK!” line to push the racial divide.
“Checked DU, talk about divide and conquer, theyre at each others throats.”
You should see them at KOS...
