Scandal met with disbelief on Wall St (Spitzer Scandal that is )
Financial Times ^ | March 10 2008 22:21 | Francesco Guerrera, Aline van Duyn and Daniel Pimlott in New York

One investment banker thought it was a joke and carried on with his meeting.

Others sat speechless, unable to avert their eyes from the television screens broadcasting the end of the career of one of Wall Street’s most feared foes.

News of Eliot Spitzer’s alleged involvement in a prostitution ring, and his possible resignation as governor of the state of New York, were met with stunned disbelief in the wood-pannelled offices and trading floors of downtown and midtown Manhattan.

Some could not resist taking a swipe at a man who, as New York’s attorney general, had castigated Wall Street for its ethical shortcomings.

“It’s a complete shocker,” a senior banker said. “Everyone is gossiping about it. And plenty of people on Wall Street are saying he deserved it.”

But others stressed that Mr Spitzer’s alleged personal shortcomings ought not to tarnish his legacy as a regulator.

“This is stunning. This is like finding out that Mother Teresa had been taking kick-backs,” said Henry Hu, a law professor at the University of Texas. “But I don’t think this undermines his achievements. This behaviour has got nothing to do with what motivated him to go after Wall Street”.

This behaviour has got nothing to do with what motivated him to go after Wall Street

Why be surprised? They're both behaviors associated with Democrats.

I’m amazed and stupified that such a legal crusader would get caught up in prostitution. I consider him a total jerk for having his wife on stage with him while he made this announcement today.

Spitzer is no different then all of his fellow democrats who can't control their own lives but are arrogant enough to think they should control all of our lives. In the democrat world Hillary runs on honesty, Edwards runs as a pauper, Kerry runs as a war hero and Obama runs as Mr. change.

One investment banker thought it was a joke and carried on with his meeting.

If he thought it was not a joke, would he halt the meeting?

It couldn’t happen to a nicer baby-killer.

When he was Cuomo’s AG, Spitzer went after every pro-life Crisis Pregnancy Center in New York with every “legal” weapon at his disposal. (It goes without saying this was Cuomo’s policy.)

They were spied on, harassed, sued, etc. Some were driven out of business. The fundamental objection Cuomo/Spitzer seem to have had to them was that they were guilty of “fraud” in that they offered “help” to pregnant women, without killing babies.

That is a stunningly stupid comment even by the standards of university professors. Scandals have been swirling around Eliot Mess for some time now. Is it really a surprise to learn that a guy who refers to himself as a "f___ing steamroller" might have a few other defects? And as for "undermining his achievements", if he acts like this as a governor, aren't a lot of people starting to wonder if he did the same as a prosecutor?

That apology of his merely underlined his amorality. He showed no shame whatsoever, and acted as though he could just push the whole thing aside with a verbal formula.

I used to work for a brokerage firm.

It’s been awhile, so I don’t remember the details of what he was trying to find, but at one time Spitzer investigated all of the brokerage firms.

He admitted that our firm was completely innocent of any wrongdoing, we were clean — and said it publicly.

He fined us anyway. I’ve always wondered how on earth he could do that, and hated him ever since.

Contrast this with Klinton’s peckerdillos and the treatment he got from the FBI.

"“But I don’t think this undermines his achievements. This behaviour has got nothing to do with what motivated him to go after Wall Street”.

That's the biggest lie I'll hear today and it's only 5:30 AM where I am. The desire to screw, figuratively or literally, otherwise unattainable people is at the core of this little monsters heart and always has been.

He's a insect.

“This is stunning. This is like finding out that Mother Teresa had been taking kick-backs,” said Henry Hu, a law professor at the University of Texas.”

That statement is beyond inane.

Spritzer (sic) was merely a far-left, and extremely over-zealous, prosecutor, who knew how to garner publicity in order to advance his political career. Period. Nothing else

Could NOT have happened to a nicer pr*ck!
